I have no ECs.

Honestly, up until this point I've had pretty much 0 EC work worth putting down. I've played piano for 10 years, but I've never won anything noteworthy. I've been a member of the school Medical Society, Latin Club, and Investment Club since Freshman and Sophomore Year, but I haven't done anything there either. All I've been doing is school work and some volunteering, but my weighted rank is still 19/280 due to an unimpressive Freshman year. I might make President/VP of Latin Club and Investment Club this year [Junior], but it still seems like very little. I can't help but feel that I haven't done anything, and it's too late to do anything now. Suggestions, input?

You don't have to win awards/be president or vp of a club to consider it an EC... As long as you are passionate about it and have been a member/participant in it for quite some time, then youre fine.

Sorry, I don't have very much advice as I'm in the same boat. Junior year...no EC's. Yet. I think since I'm not involved in anything regular (like a club) I might try to do something more unique. Because I mean, lots of people are in clubs and random time-filling but not impressive ECs. So why don't you try to do something unique that most people won't have? Just a thought, as that's what I think I'm going to try to do. I just don't know what yet, lol. OH! And you can get a job if you don't have one already. Okay, not really an EC, but if you work a certain amount of hours every week it might look good, especially if you don't find any other ECs besides clubs.

You just need to figure out how to present what you've done in a positive way. Take piano. Don't focus on your lack of awards, instead talk about your dedication, the joy it brings you and others, etc.

jckund: That's part of the problem. I haven't been doing much for a long time.

Topoftheworld: I guess I might look into jobs, although most of my time after school on weekdays is pretty booked as it is

Sherpa: I guess I should focus on piano a little more, I haven't really worked on it in a while. But there are a lot of kids that have piano as an EC :)

"most of my time after school on weekdays is pretty booked as it is"

Whatever it is that you are doing with your time after school on weekdays that is not doing homework/school projects is most likely something that would fall into the EC category. Are you spending hours each day keeping house because your parents both work and you are the only one with time to clean and cook? Well, write about that.

Happykid has one, and only one, EC. It is hugely entertaining for her as well as hugely time consuming. One commitment that is hugely interesting to you, and to which you devote your extra non-homework energy, is enough.

That isn't "NO EC's" at all. Read your post again.

I actually have, literally 0 EC's other than my hobbies.

You're fine.

No, problem is the only thing I do outside of schoolwork is work out for about an hour each day after school. I can cram in maybe a half-hour of piano practice each day [or rather, some days] but that's it.

The way I see it, most days I do nothing but homework and exercise, and that strikes me as no ECs.

If it isn't too personal, might I ask why you're so busy as a high schooler as if you're working in some prison camp?

And what do you mean you haven't done anything in those clubs? Did you not show up in meetings at all, or what? I don't see how you can be a member of a club but not do "anything". But anyways, I guess now would be the time to start doing "something" in those clubs...?

Learn to fluff your ecs...whatever the overachievers on cc say 95% of people do it....
