I have no humanities teacher to recommend me, help!

Most of the colleges I am applying to require a recommendation from a math/science teacher and a history/english teacher, but this is a problem for me. I have had awesome science teachers who would recommend me, but all of my english and history teachers have hated me! Beyond that, my grades in their classes have also been much less than stellar, so I doubt they would feel comfortable recommending me even if they did like me.

I don't know what to do about this. Help!

What about a foreign language teacher or do they specifically say english/history, b/c I know I was in the same place [though in my case the teachers liked me but I never did exceptionally well in their classes].

You're in the same situation as I am.. I got a great rec. from my math teacher but my english and business teachers hate me.. I am considering my english teacher though because I have been doing great these days and recieved the highest mark..

Unfortunately, it has to be a history or english teacher. Foreign language recommendations are only supplements.

I see, then I would say pick the teacher whose class you feel you did the best in, best does not just mean gradewise, but did you participiate actively in their class and were you a grade conscious student.

Or, if your school is like ours and you can see the teacher rec, then I would say request a few recs and chose the one you think is best.

I have the same problem, except it's the science teacher rec that I need... I thought I had this one in the bag, until I miserably failed the AP exam, hahaha...

It doesn't matter what your grades or scores are. It matters how much they like you. I got a B in Eng 12 Honors this year, and I would've had no problem asking that guy for a recommendation while I never would have gotten one from a teacher I had a high straight A in the entire year. Your grades are not indicative of how much your teachers like you, remember that.

What lastchancexi said is true. He and I were in a Phys AP C Mech. class, and he maintained over 100% in the class almost the entire year--but the teacher flat out refused to write him a reccomendation. On the other hand, our Calc. teacher wrote me a great rec, despite never having a straight A in her class.

But if you come from a school like mine where teachers make up grades half the time and give A's to the students they like, then you would base it off your grades.

do ivies want "math/science AND english/history" ? I mean what if you do "english and foreign language" ??

Hey, sys, I never asked our phys teacher for a recommendation (except jokingly), but truthfully, it would have been incredibly stupid to ask for one.

Listen to what the school asks for. Generally, I think they expect a humanities teacher and a math/sci teacher to recommend you.

Which schools requires teacher recs from specific subjects?

The only one that comes to mind right now is MIT, but I know there must be others.

From Stanford:

We require that your recommenders be teachers who have taught you in grades 11 and/or 12 in two different subject areas from among the following: English, mathematics, science, foreign language and history/ social studies.
