Today I had my MIT admissions interview with an EC who is a professor the local University. We met at a coffeehouse and before I knew it we had spent about one and a half hours conversing and the interview was over. All I remember was that my EC spent a lot of time talking about herself and her experiences at MIT and that I asked a decent amount of questions. The conversation itself was fun and as I mentioned, the time passed very quickly. However, now that I think about it, I never really had the time to explain my passion for what I wanted to pursue at MIT and my EC only really asked me two questions (What AP classes I was taking and What Extra-Curriculars I did). At first I had thought that the interview had gone great, but now I'm not so sure anymore! Should I perhaps have done more to speak about myself and what was important to me? I mean, throughout the conversation I did kind of piece together what I felt was important to me, what I wanted to pursue and what kind of person I am but there was never a monologue which was what I expected going in. Also this was my first ever such interview, so is this actually the norm?

You had a very normal interview. Actually, many students wanting to know what an interview with an MIT EC will be like should read your post.

What is an interview with EC?

At MIT, unless your interview is waived, applicants receive an educational counselor’s (EC) name and contact information via their MyMIT account. They are expected to make contact to arrange an interview by a particular date which is determined by which deadline the applicant is applying.

Ok, we are talking of a standard MIT interview and not something special.

You should be happy she put you at so much ease that you did not feel like it was an interview.

Wow, you are getting me so scared. I’m a REALLY boring guy. I don’t think I can manage “chatting” with a stranger for such a large amount of time. I’ll last for 5 minutes and then lose it. My interviewer will be cursing every second.
Global warming is a hoax, romney 2016. garlic bread

We MIT alumni have big egos, and we will think you are a great person if we get to talk about ourselves in the interview.
