I don't really know what I want to major in, and am pretty much open to any schools. I'm still a junior and am looking for suggestions.

It’s kind of hard to help you without knowing much about your goals and interests. Care to elaborate?

What state do you live in? If you live in a state with a good flagship public, you should apply there so you can get in-state tuition.

You have great stats. But everything really depends on what you want. Do you know if you want a big school or a small school?

I recommend that you through the “Top Universities” section on College Confidential, (it includes schools like Georgetown, Wash U, Duke, etc) and go to those schools’ websites. Read about them, & see which ones interest you!

You’d be surprised. The quality of your high school really makes a difference. I don’t know where you go, but if you go to an average school, a 3.5 may not be so hot. But I go to a rigorous prep school (we send quite a few to top schools), and a 3.5 UW is considered good.

But of course, you need matches and safeties too. Since you want a bigger school with good athletics, look into state schools.

Erm I just posted on my cousins account on accident.

Anyway, I have no preference as to where I want to go or what I want to do.

A large school might be nice, and athletics would be cool too.

I don’t think top 20s want a kid with a 3.4-3.6 GPA, even if it is UW.

And I live in NY as stated in the OP.

Too bad there are no good athletic schools that are SUNYs.

Yeah. But you can apply Out-Of-State to schools. University of Alabama would be a good safety school.

I actually considered that, and I took two ACT practice tests and got a 34/33 w/out preparation and if you get a 32 it’s a full-scholarship there.

Definitely use the SUNYs as safeties. Figure out which are best in your areas of interest.

It’s fine if you’re still pretty undecided at this point, but you ought to come up with some characteristics to look for when you really begin your search. In other words, how do you plan to choose from among the 3000+ American colleges?

In the mean time, keep in mind that some of the top-20 schools towards the lower end will definitely take B+/A- students with a 2150 SAT.

Alright, so here’s a sample list for you, keeping in mind your apparent interest in sports and languages. Since you are openly undecided about the size of your school, I threw in schools of all sizes:

Davidson College
Middlebury College
University of Virginia
Washington University in St. Louis
Emory University
Duke University
Georgetown University
University of Texas – Austin

This is probably a definite no, but if I am legacy is there a .0001% chance to get in Columbia?

this is brendanna

i keep on logging to my account but its posting on my cousins, it says i am logged in but when i post its under his name… we share computers by the way… why is this happening?

Yes; if you are a legacy at Columbia, that will definitely help your chances. They are not guaranteed, but raised significantly. If you and your family feel comfortable in terms of finances and you research Columbia and decide that you like it best out of all your options, then applying ED will also increase your chances, too.

Do you want to run track in college?
What events do you do?
Well yea we can’t really help that much until you have ideas of what your looking for.

You should definitely check out Cornell as a reach. I would also look into Rice as a reach.

I’m posting from my cousins account because whenever I sign on to mine, it redirects us to him.

In track I run a 4:26 mile, which is good but no where good enough for a scholarship at a good D1 school. I have got some letters of interest, but I don’t want to go to a college just for track, especially because I am rather injury prone.

Bucknell, Colgate, Lafayette, Holy Cross
