I have no idea what to do...

With the college admission process. I don't know where to look.
Maybe journalism/history/international affairs, etc.
Please help me find a reasonably affordable school (My parents have told me that they can only commit 8 grand a year for school).

My stats:

SAT 1360
ACT 33

Public high school
Eagle Scout
4.0 GPA

Do you qualify for need-based aid? Try CC"s financial aid calculator that you can link to on the home page.

Probably your best bets are your state's public universities. What state do you live in?

Go to a state school, 8 grand a year should be more than enough for a bunch of state schools if you get some fin aid, scholarships, or loans.

Yeah, I live in Ohio, but Ohio State doesn't appeal to me, and Ohio U is out in the middle of nowhere. Are there any schools in the Big 10 that give merit-aid to out of state students?

with an ACT of 33 and a GPA of 4.0 along with an Eagle Scout -- you should be able to scare up some merit aid!

Read carefully through this thread <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=52133%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=52133</a></p>

and consider posting in the parents forum with a title like this: "Where to find good merit aid with 4.0 GPA and ACT of 33"

another excellent thread to read through <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?p=2946911%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?p=2946911</a></p>

Illinois
Indiana
Iowa
Michigan
Michigan State
Minnesota
Penn State
Purdue
Wisconsin

Wiscy, UMich, and UIUC as toughest to get into along with Northwestern.

Sorry, what I meant to ask was schools in the Big 10 that are "liberal" in giving merit aid since out-of-state tuition is probably 3x as much as in-state.

Northwestern is out of the picture for Big Ten ($45K in all and only need-based).

But well worth it at $45K

U Minn. has a nice poli sci and nice journalism programs, and also has nice merit aid.

Michigan State has a good J school. I don't know about it's poli sci dept, but usually college in state capitals have good political sci departments, and good opportunities for politically-oriented internships. It probably also has decent merit aid.

jpod, I agree. I've been to the campus and it is absolutely beautiful. It would be my #1 if money wasn't a concern.

Wow, if we combined we'd be perfect. I can afford it, I just dont have the grades. Go us! XD

Do you qualify for need based aid? A lot of people qualify for aid who are well off. Is your EFC well over 8K? What type of schools do you want, other than Big 10? What is it about Big 10 schools that make them so intriguing? Why not consider Miami U (in-state)? Have you considered LACs?

It's The Big Ten. You get a life long team to enjoy on TV every week. Alumni clubs in every major city. Rule in the Midwest city job markets.

What Barrons said about the Big Ten is the answer.

Don't forget about the U. of Missouri if you have an interest in journalism. It is one of the top schools in the country for that, and much cheaper than getting a journalism degree at Northwestern. It's been many years, but I got my undergrad and Masters (American History) there and thought that department was excellent as well.

I think the Big Twelve is the same, except you won't always enjoy your team every week.

Sorry I'm not of any help to the OP

pizzahut, the state of Ohio is as good as it gets for merit aid anywhere. Look into Denison and Case Western. Also, Miami (OH) has merit. But, 8K per yr is very low. Room and Board will go through that alone, then books run another 1K per year. Seriously price out Ohio State. They send out mailers about their merit programs.
