Hi
Don't want to make this too long
Please just list some colleges that I could apply to next year
gpa is around 3.4 at a tough public school
but including senior year, i'll have taken 8-9 aps and lots of honors
my school doesn't rank
sat: took it once, 2260
cr: 750 math: 710 writing:800
Lots of ECs with leadership; lots of volunteer hours
Not sure what I want to major in
Please just list any colleges that would be my safety, reach, super reach, etc.
Thank you

1) There are hundreds if colleges that would be matches, safeties, reaches, etc. You have to be more specific in what you want and what you have (ex. “lots of volunteer hours”, what’s a lot?)
2) This is posted on the wrong thread. Go to College Search and Selection.

Looking at your other post, I see you live in New York. Your in-state public schools will probably offer you the most affordable options.

Is the GPA weighted or unweighted?

Once you post with more information, people will be happy to help you come up with a list. You should provide a recap of the info you posted in the “What Are My Chances?” forum. You might also consider writing a slightly differently-worded post for the Parents Forum (because we’re not supposed to put identical posts in different forums) - lots of helpful people there.

What is your weighted GPA? Try to get it to at least a 3.5 cum by the end of this year.

What is your budget? If you don’t know how much your parents will pay, ask them.

If you need FA, then your GPA might keep you out of the schools with the best aid.

If you need merit scholarships, your SAT is fine, but your GPA might prevent you from getting awards unless you can get it higher by the end of this year…which would be tough. Work on that.

What kind of schools do you like?

Do you have any geographical restrictions?

*my bad. i had two different tabs open and wasn’t paying attention which section this was in :/

-Swarthmore

A lot of these schools are reach schools but they offer a good amount of financial aid so you should still consider applying!

^ Let’s just work from that list (with a few tossed in)…

Unrealistic
MIT (the 710M, though good, would be quite low for this school)

Super Reach/u
Penn
Swarthmore, Amherst, Pomona, Duke
Georgetown, Cornell
JHU, Tufts

Reach
Carleton, Wesleyan, Davidson, CMU
Boston College

Match
Grinnell, Macalester, Colby
Bates, Bucknell, Colorado College, Holy Cross, Lafayette, URochester, Whitman

Safety
SUNY Geneseo, SUNY Binghamton, etc.
Earlham

All of the above are either relatively affordable (the SUNYs, in-state) or provide good-to-excellent need-based financial aid (typically covering 95-100% of demonstrated need). A key question is whether you can cover your Expected Family Contribution. Also consider “fit” issues (size, location, weather, social atmosphere, etc.)

If you need merit aid (because you cannot cover your EFC), that would call for a different list (eliminating almost all of the above reach and super reach schools). If you want engineering or some other pre-professional/technical major, that would call for a different list (eliminating almost all of the LACs).
