Hey, if anyone can help, please comment!

I have no idea where I want to go or where I rank, I have good extracurriculars but my statistics are not that impressive.

3.50 GPA unweighted projected when I apply to colleges
27 on ACT, 1800 on SAT (this may go up to a 28)
Excellent extracurriculars (debate team captain for 2 years, mentoring program president, NHS, spanish honor society, key club, newspaper club (officer), and science olympiad)
I have a job and went to a couple summer academic summer camps
Community service = volunteer 4 different places, 8 hours a week
6 awards/honors
I took 1 AP junior year and will take 5 senior year
My class rank is PROB in top 25-45%

I was looking schools similar to Emory, USC, UC Santa Barbara, BC, Wake Forest... I don't know where I rank, I'm looking at schools in California a lot too and in the south. No idea what I want to study, just not business or anything in the arts, prob some type of science.

THANK YOU FOR ADVICE... Especially USC, do I stand a chance?

USC is not impossible but your standardized scores would probably need a little boost and you would need to finish your first semester of your senior year strong. Wake Forest may be more difficult but I believe they have an SAT optional policy this year. Your GPA would need to finish a little strong. I think Emory and BC would be real long shots.

I know someone that has almost the same exact stats as you and was accepted into Elon in the fall. You may want to throw them into the mix.

Where else did they apply?

She did not apply or seriously consider any other college. Elon was her reach school and she applied ED. She did not really have a back up plan, just cross her fingers and pray. Not a good strategy.

Well, had she not gotten in, she could have easily applied to a few other schools within that one-month span between Dec 1 and Jan 1.

Pitzer would be a slight reach for you. It’s one of the Claremont Colleges and you’d be able to take classes at four other great schools. The lower UCs would make great backup schools. Occidental (in the LA area) looks like a good match.

What is your home state and what can your parents afford?

Realistically with your resume, I would look more at the Southeast either at SEC and ACC schools, like Georgia, South Carolina, Clemson, Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Kentucky or on the other hand, private schools like Furman, Elon, and Davidson as a reach.

I don’t think you’re quite at the Emory/Wake Forest level, at least at your current scores. Unfortunately, your resume, while good, will not be strong enough to compete for any major California school or prestigious southern school. The benefit of applying to the schools I mentioned is that there is generally less competition and scores tend to be slightly above or near your 1800. I hope that helps.

look at Clemson! if you have any questions about Clemson, let me know!
