I have one terrible grade and one poor SAT II... am I doomed?

I have great stats and ECs, but I have a TERRIBLE grade in AP Bio for the semester and do not have the greatest SAT IIs. Do I still stand a chance at HYPS Columbia and Dartmouth?

THE PROBLEM

Current Courses and Midyear Grades

AP Government: 92
AP Calc: 93
AP Psych: 93
AP Literature: 90
AP Economics: 91
AP Bio: 78!!!!!!!!!

AP courses taken last year + exam scores

AP Physics: 91 + 5 on exam
AP US History: 93 + 4 on exam
AP Lang and Comp: 94 + 5 on exam
AP Chem: 94 + 4 on exam

WILL COLLEGES SEE AP BIO AS AN OUTLIER AND DISCOUNT IT GIVEN MY OTHER GRADES IN AP LEVEL COURSES?

Other Relevant Info:

Academics:

GPA - Unweighted: 3.80
GPA - Weighted: 4.62

Class Size: 440

Scores:

SAT I Math: 800

Extracurriculars:

Numerous Awards in High School Debate, both on the local and national circuit. On the state circuit I have placed at state every year since my freshman year, including 2nd place as a soph. On the national circuit I have cleared to elimination rounds at highly competitive tournaments (more than 20 times), been invited to various round robins, and earned tournament of champions bids.

I placed second at the NE regional science bowl tournament out of more than 200 students.

Other ECs: Jazz Band, Hospital volunteering, elderly center volunteering, NHS

Academics Awards : numerous yet kind of generic, 2nd place on AMC in School, AP Scholar with Honor etc.

No, one bad grade won’t kill you :slight_smile: Is AP Bio hard? Your Ecs are fine but your Math and Physics scores are a lttle low…but they’re still good enough, but I think a 700 would look even better.Do you plan on re-taking them?

What format of debate are you in?

Doomed .

No, definitely submit that application because you totally have a good chance!

And thank you for teaching me that HYPS means Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Stanford

=)

You’re one of the few that I know to have applied to almost all of the ivies. I don’t think your chances are over for ALL of these schools; there’s at least one that will accept you (especially with a 2350 SAT).

Ha. Not to be a prick, but how can someone so intelligent lack so much common sense? Obviously, if you have A’s in all AP classes and just one C+, colleges will see it as an outlier. You are in the top 5% of your class. Don’t worry about it!

bump 10char

Wait, a 78 is a C+ at your school?!? It’s a D at mine. Does that also mean a 90 is an A?

this is how grades work at my school

A = 90-100

B = 80-89

C = 70-79

D = 66-69

F = 0-65

plzzzzzzzz 1 more reply?

Ugh. This thread is frustrating. Of course you’re fine…as far as the Bio grade and “poor” SAT II goes. But I hear the Ivies automatically discard the applications of prospective students that ask dumb questions on college admission message boards. Sorry.
