Well you have to read through my post to find the decision date =) I have a feeling that I am already in Bucknell but I am not exactly sure so I decided to share my story.

I met the guy for admissions in my area, Brad Ward, during a visit to my school. About a month later he sent me a full hand written letter stating how much he enjoyed meeting me at my school (he mentioned it by name) and also he mentioned our conversation and my interests in computer science and econ. Then I had someone from Bucknell call to see if I had any questions, this was about a week later and at the same time I had an e-mail asking me for any questions. About two months ago I got another letter from a student in the admissions office telling me how great Bucknell is and that I should apply. Then a month ago I got another e-mail from a Bucknell student asking me if I had any questions. 2-3 weeks ago I received another hand written letter from a student in the admissions office and they attached an article about the Economics department at Bucknell. Today I came home and there was a message that lasted for about 3 minutes, a student who is a freshmen said she is from California and to call her with any questions I might have and gave me her e-mail, in the middle she was like by the way admission letters will be out March 25th. Did anyone else have all these phone calls / letters ? I am wondering if they confused my application or something because my stats aren’t exactly great, hell on this board they are probably the bottom 10 percentile:
Sat: 690M 650V 670W
Sat2s: Math 2c: 750; Bio M: 620 US history: 590 Yes I took the wing it approach to both my sats, only because I knew that amazing sats wouldn’t help my gpa.
Freshmen gpa: 3.1
Sophomore: 3.52
Junior: 3.57 (also moved into 2 honors and 1 ap course from all regulars)
Senior 1st sem (2 aps and 1 honors) : 3.94
My activities could be what help me most, I have had a job as a systems administrator, started two companies (both of which ran for 2 years), had an internship with a fortune 500 company, been on nbc (for 4 min on sat nite), won best speaker awards, I am asb president, and I transitioned from an absolute * middle school (no child left behind status) to a top 10 school. It could help that I am Indian and bucknell is predominantly white.

Brad Ward was our son's admit rep, too. He's a great guy.

Don't sell yourself short. Geographic diversity is a plus, as is ethnicity; but you've done some interesting things plus you have the upward trend in grades as your classes became harder. I hope you get good news soon!

Brad was my person too. I got all the same stuff (not to undermine the specialness, because I did get in and now go here), including the akward econ article with the hand written note and a phone call from a fellow cali student. it's nice to feel so wanted isn't it? :o) Are you from California?

Hahha yes it is very nice to feel so wanted :D To be honest I thought Bucknell was alright but it was too much like the 30 other colleges I was considering, it was off my list until I got the hand written letter from Brad which made my day and had me apply =) I am from California, in fact in the Bay Area as well. How exactly does Bucknell choose who to target ? And equine99 how is the "hotness" of the campus, I know playboy rated them number 3.

I know that they do like having people from california, yet I'm not sure how they pick who they really want. Maybe he just really liked you? Who knows. . . haha about the hottness, I believe the whole playboy ranking thing is bogus, BUT the entire campus is basically hot. The guys are all hot, the girls are all hot, it's hotness everywhere haha. It's a little overwhelming to walk around and everyone is georgeous, for the most part. There are even guys in the nerdy frat who are worth a look or two. haha. I will say that it is way more conservative here than I expected, politically, and I would deffinetly say that you can feel a racial tension (mostly a black/white thing). Just so you have the whole story, thoe are the only negatives I can think of. Other than those things it's an awesome school. You can walk anywhere in 10 minutes basically, and the campus is georgeous. Have you visited it?

I guess compared to Cali it is more conservative, but when you're from Texas, my son feels that it is more politically apathetic with a vocal minority of conservatives. :p Bucknell's College Democrat Club won chapter of the year of PA last year, and hosted the convention.

He's more into the live music scene--his band just played at the Uptown last month and he got to see Fall Out Boy for free last year before they broke out. I have not heard much about the "hottness"...then again, it's probably not something you'd discuss with your mom!

I think if I knew why colleges picked certain students over others, I'd write a book and live happily ever after on the proceeds. A crystal ball would serve me just as well.

it's a very vocal conservative group, and a not as vocal democratic group, but the whole school has a conservatie undertone. I went to Menlo School in the bay area, and that's relatively conservative for CA. Oh well, off to poetry class

Vocal read "more money for ads and email spam to parents" LOL...you need to hang with the Philo kids more (unless that isn't your political tendancy of course, which it is not my point to bash, just point out that either political philosophy is acceptable there)

I'm just taking a basic poetry class. Since I plan on minoring in English (creative writing) it's one of my required classes, but it's a great class. I actually typed my last post from the class room. We have great wireless internet all over campus.

I am most deffinetly liberal, so maybe I'll find some other libs once i start taking some philo classes, but as of yet I've only met a handful of liberal people.
