I am currently at OCC planning to transfer to UCLA. I have applied and wrote kick ass essays. I am applying into their Communications Studies. I have also applied to Berkeley for Media Studies. My GPA is a 3.76 ( no honors) but I have taken all the necessary G.E. (every single one). I got my essays reviewed and I didn't need to change anything. (Or so my reviewers said.

So for UCLA Comm Studies and Berkeley Media Studies, with a 3.76 and all G.E. done, great essays and motivation.
What are my chances of getting in to both. Or just one--and which one at that. Thanks Again.
I think my chances are high but I am going crazy lately waiting 60 more days to hear back.

I can't speak for Cal, but UCLA's is probably one of the most competitive in the country.
I have a friend who has a 3.76 UCLA GPA, and according to her, that's on the low-end of the GPA scale in the comm. studies dept. They don't release average GPA info in order to keep it competitive, but most people I've talked to think it's in the low-mid 3.8s. I don't know exactly, but some of the smartest people I know here are definitely comm majors.

So I'd say you have a decent chance for sure, but I don't think it's really that great, especially when they're admitting kids who have a 3.76+ AT UCLA.

Good luck though, I hope you do get in and go on to do great things :)

comm major is a bs major dude. higher GPA does not imply intelligence. are you saying that those engineers with 3.1s and 3.2s are not as smart as comm majors? gimme a break. the reason that it has a high GPA in the first place is because its a BS major. case closed.

Say whatever you want haterofhaters its the hardest major to transfer to at UCLA. And intelligence is relevant, its not a "communications" major its a Communications Study, which is studying media and its forms.

wutever dude. anything with a "studies" at the end is pretty much bs... global studies, international development studies, women's studies, and yes, your communication studies...

you dont see stuff like economic studies or engineering studies lmao.

Ok well I plan on going into Mass Media and Poly Sci so you can stop *****ing now. Why would you enter a forum just to complain-- seems like a waste.

"wutever dude. anything with a "studies" at the end is pretty much bs... global studies, international development studies, women's studies, and yes, your communication studies...

you dont see stuff like economic studies or engineering studies lmao."

My friend with a 3.65 Chem-E GPA tried to transfer into the comm. dept and didn't get in. I hope you realize how silly you look when you talk about something you know nothing about (and I am NOT a comm. major btw).

Also, global studies requires study abroad, 2 years of a foreign language, and a 50-page thesis your senior year in order to graduate. Get out of your dorm room and smell the roses once in a while, and check your ego at the door.

international econ requires 2 years of foreign language also. and all those north campus majors are papers papers and more papers. anyone can drag out a long paper.

if you have a brain then it would make sense why your chem. e. friend got rejected. 1) the average gpa for comm. is like 3.8 as mentioned above, so your friend's GPA was below average 2) he did not start as comm major so they have to give priority to people who started as comm majors 3) my friend is comm major and he tells me, and i quote "COMM MAJOR IS A FKING JOKE"

get out of my dorm room? LMAO. if by that you are implying on my social life, then you are SADLY mistaken. i posted a reply to a person's questions about Greek life and the rush/selection process of SORORITIES...if you want to look it up, please do. i will not waste time getting into details on how idiotic you made yourself sound.

and finally, i will NOT check my ego at the door because i have the RIGHT to be proud. I lettered twice in football, four times in tennis, my boxing record is 3-0 and i was accepted to UPenn's Huntsman Program, Duke, WashU, Berkeley.

finally, i daresay the connections i have before i came to college are more than you will make in your lifetime.

PAHAHAHAHAHA you're pathetic. You're still living on the schools you got into? Please tell me we don't go to the same school.

PS: you said finally twice.

PPS: I don't list my accomplishments like an arrogant A**whole. I guess I just get what "having class" means. But you're pretty much an average UCLA student. One of my friends who's an All-American is sitting here laughing at your Varsity letters comment. The other one who was admitted to Stanford and Harvard (my roommate) is laughing at your list of colleges. Get over this "me proud" thing. It's stupid.

thats fine dude. let your roommates laugh. if they are better than me, i respect that. but wut about YOU? because the reply was directed towards YOU.

hateofhaters - your comment about comm being a bs major wasn't really necessary and kind of sparked this whole debate between you and others.

btw, if you are who I think you are (Jack X?), I've played tennis with you around fall of last year (with a group of others). No offense, but that was not the performance of a Varsity player.

In the case that you are not Jack, being Varsity depends a lot on your school. In my first high school, being able to serve a normal serve meant you could be on Varsity. In my second high school, we had players who were ranked like #2 in California. Being Varsity in the former wouldn't be as impressive as the latter.

"thats fine dude. let your roommates laugh. if they are better than me, i respect that. but wut about YOU? because the reply was directed towards YOU."

Me? Well if I were to lower myself to the level of "who's better," I'd tell you I'm a CIF runner-up, earned 9 varsity letters, captained 6 teams, and was a silver medalist at an international sporting competition involving 155 different countries. I'd also tell you I was admitted to 9 universities, several of which are "ranked" higher than the ones you mentioned, and am on an academic scholarship at UCLA.

Then again, I'd consider myself the average student here.

But really, the argument is stupid and is drawing away from the original intent of the thread. If you have any more questions about my qualifications, well that's too bad, because admission to UCLA by ANYONE should answer any questions you may have of them.

LOL. silver medalist in dart throwing? you got in harvard? yale? MIT? because those are the only ones that rank higher than UPenn.

and im on a scholarship here too. you think i would go here instead of Penn just for the kicks? I don't want to tell you how much I am getting because it will blow you right out of the water. Let's just say I get enough to the point where my OOS status doesnt really matter.

But you are right, altema, i did digress from the topic of the thread but i do stand by my opinion that comm studies is a bs major. there back to the main topic.

Nope, in a legit sport (which I won't list because then it'd probably be fairly easy to find me). But think along the level of basketball, track, baseball, etc. One that's very, very common throughout the world.

Congrats on the scholarship, I know a lot of people with full rides and they seem pretty content with their experience here. I'm sorry you're still bitter about not going to Penn (which is pretty much the ONLY thing I got out of my entire convo with you). You should transfer; with the most applications in the nation, someone will want your spot.

Almost everyone has the grades. What UCLA seems to value is leadership. What kind of extra curriculars make you stand out as a leader, someone who cares about the world and wants to make change.

vociferous, is that an essay question im suppose to answer?

vc08, no im not bitter at all. actually im kind of glad that i didnt go to penn. i believe i made the right choice. here you have time for other stuff while still having a pretty solid academia. i dont think i am quite ready for the cut-throat competition yet. ill be re-applying to wharton for grad school tho.

i just respect some majors more than others, and i have the least respect for people who just came here for the diploma.
