I mean, your D was first year and even though Stanford claims they don't factor in first year grades, that D does impact your overall GPA which they do look at (so at least in some respect, Stanford's decisions do sort of include first year inadvertently). But, as you said, you DID re-take the course.

I'm not going to be rude and pessimistic, since I don't feel that I need to be. I think the biggest thing that will hurt you is the fact that your SATs in math are high, yet your math grades are low -- ability is there, just not the grades. That opens up doors to questioning... BUT you have good scores, and it's definitely worth still applying ED if it's your first choice. You never know what can happen!

Thanks for the encouragement (and criticism_.

I'm replying to something that most of you pointed out: my math scores.

Actually my first sat II math II c score was 650 and my first sat math test score was 630 . The scores I posted for my math ones are from the second time I took the SATs.

Those math grades are low, but do you want to major in some sort of math related field?(This analysis is also based on the idea that Stanford asks you to list a possible major. If they don't, you can just stop reading now, you're not getting in.) If you're majoring in the humanities or even a science, I don't think your math grades will sink you. I'm not saying you'll get in to Stanford, but I'm not going to give you a definite no. Unless you want to major in a math related field. Then you have no chance.

Want to major in Philosophy and Literature at Stanford (Interdisciplinary in the Humanities). President of Philosophy and Literature cluib since the 9th grade, established it myself.. etc..etc

It's great to see all the responses from people who don't read the posts.

Here is the truth -- yes, you have a chance at getting in. The key word is chance, however. It depends on how they view you as a person, and if they believe you will be able to alter some of the trends that appeared in High School. I think the fact you had a 790 on the Math IIC and a 2380 on the SAT Reasoning indicates something else was going on in those classes...how exactly did you end up with a C in Math in your Junior year, but a 790 on the Math IIC? It could make up for it, though there are no garuantees.

At any rate, since your interest is philosophy and you seem smart, there is definitely still a chance. I'd still apply, perhaps even EA. But, if you were to get in, I would definitely be thanking them, because they'd be giving you a chance to fix your previous errors.
