I got into the college off the waitlist and i applied for the fin aid..
The fin aid office says that they got everything recently but I havent received the award package yet.
I'm extremely nervous about not getting it ... because it's very important to me.

Classes will start in about a month and will there be a possibility of not getting it by then?
I also got an email about the ebill that i have to pay by august 16th and i sent the fin aid office and they told me its not due august 16th.

Also, i heard i woudlnt be able to get much aid if was got in off the waitlist. Is that true?

I'm so anxious because i will need time to take out loans as well..

First of all, that’s terrific that you’ve gotten in - congratulations! I don’t have any particular expertise with W&M financial aid, but I can relay that my experience communicating with the office was pleasant both times I called to check on things this past spring, so I would not hesitate to continue to communicate with them by phone.

I can understand wanting to be sure that the Aug. 16 date doesn’t pass without you being sure that things are in place for payment. A possible explanation for the financial aid office telling you that that isn’t really the deadline for all payment is that I believe that maybe the financial aid award that you will receive will automatically be taken off your bill, but it may not happen until after the 16th. I think my daughter’s eBill said that her grant would not be applied against her charges until late August, and we were going to call to confirm that that was okay (that it didn’t violate the Aug. 16 deadline), but then less than an hour later, the financial aid grant DID register on her account and everything was up to date. So it seems that, once they figure out your financial aid, it is a speedy thing for them to apply that aid money against your bill.

It’s probably good that you’re in state (less of a bill to have to pay overall, plus probably the grants are speedier to arrive). I think I remember the eBill saying that you need to make sure you have paid everything EXCEPT the amount of your financial aid by Aug. 16th, but of course that’s the whole point for you: you need to know what that amount will be so that you know how much you have to come up with and pay (or take out loans for) by the 16th. I would think that both Student Accounts and Financial Aid probably take particular care to accommodate students who have just found out they’re admitted, so I’m sure they will expedite your aid award and, if necessary, give you extra time to pay – as long as you keep in touch with them about it.

If the amount that i have to pay by august 16th does not include the amount from financial aid, that amount would be (total bill) - (loans/grants)… right?
But then, i will have to know how my aid package is like; which i dont have yet.
Thats why its not due to that date i guess.

Congratulations on being admitted! Feel free to contact the Financial Aid Office to get status updates on your award package. When it’s ready, you can see it online through Banner Self Service (part of the myWM page).

It is true that those admitted off the waitlist are likely going to get mostly loans because the grants we had were mostly already awarded by June. But your FAFSA will still be evaluated and packaged to the best of our abilities.

I’m sure that your award notification will come through before your bill is due on the 16th.

I should have asked if you knew where to check for your financial aid package! I think my daughter got an email notifying her that it was posted on her myWM page, but she had already found it because she was checking regularly. So it might be posted before you are notified that it’s posted.

I just got my award package!!!
i got $5,500 for pell grant, and i’m eligible for the gateway program - $17,329. and outside scholarship $1000.
that was total $23,879.00 wich is the full cost of attendance.

There were no loans or anything else listed on the award list.
Does that mean i wont have any loans??

If you’re in the Gateway program, your EFC + any outside scholarships + any federal grants + your Gateway grant should add up to the total cost of attendance. Which means no loans. Insert usual disclaimer about financial aid being re-evaluated every year and your financial aid package possibly changing to include loans if your family’s income rises above the limit for the Gateway program.

If you’re packaged as a Gateway student, your award will not include loans, only grants. However, you may have an EFC (expected family contribution) which you are still expected to pay. Your award letter will state if there’s any EFC for your family.
