Hi, I am a prospecting student wanting to go to georgia tech but i asked a student who was over there what my chances were and he said slim to none :(

This was seriously depressing. here is what my things are

33 math ACT
33 English ACT

(math and english are all that is needed if you submit ACT)

top 10 percent of class

I have been playing cello for 8 years, and when in middle school, i placed 3 place in high school division. I play in alot of community service broadway plays, such as CATS, Les Misrables, and West Side Story.

I also went with my orchestra for an international trip to Berlin Germany.

I thought that all this orchestra stuff was pretty good, but he said it is nothing and i needed way more Extra Caricuular activites. He said it was too late to start now.

Now i am seriously depressed. GT was the school i wanted to go to all my life.

Is it too late to save my faultering EC activites.

If you are in state, I would almost guarantee admission (obviously depending on recommendation letters and specifics). If you are out of state, you have an extremely good chance.

GT accepts a lot of people. Then the first two years are really hard so a lot of people dont finish.

We are a hard school, but that doesn’t mean that most of our students drop out. Since 1999, our first-year retention rate has never been lower than 90%. That is, nine out of every ten incoming students return for their second year at Georgia Tech. In 2005, the national average one-year retention rate for public four-year universities was 72.7%. In other words, we beat the hell out of the average.

Sorry, a lot of people will switch to management/LCC/computational media. It is pretty hard to drop out completely (especially in the first year), they give you a lot of chances.

Your scores are good - in state or out of state. If you took the tough courses and made good grades (and they raise Bs and Cs 1/2 letter for honors or gifted), you should be in.

Take a look at the information in the Common Data Set. It says the most important criteria is your GPA. EC’s and test scores are listed as a notch down at important. Is your GPA at least 3.75?

I took AP physics this year and got the highest grade in my class, even though i was a year younger than everybody else. I got a 100

I took pre-cal this year and got a 100 also.

Took chem 1 and 2 and got 98 both times. I do well in math and sceince but bad in history. I got an 88 this year in AP History and an 85 in AP pscyhology. I have taken the most rigourous courses that i can in my high school. I also got an award called AP youth scholar award, i heard it was pretty prestigious, but i had already threw it away by then on accident :(.

My friend said that me making a B in history and a B in psychology killed my chance of getting in.

Do you guys think that he is Shi*tting me? He sounded really serious when he was telling me about how that i should apply to an easier state school.

I got in easily a couple years ago with almost exactly the same stats, and qualified for the presidential scholars interviews. I had good AP scores, but it doesnt matter you have an excellent chance of getting in. Tech could care less about a B in history or pyschology.

um… you are in. a 33 is great. why would you worry about anything if you have a 33. 33 means you have a shot anywhere.
how do people on cc come on here and be like “omg i got a 34 and a 2200 with a 3.9. do you think i can get into my state school or am i screwed because i had a 4 on one of my several ap tests???”

explorer cy, i dont have a 33 composite. I have a 31 composite. I only have a 33 in math and english. But are you guys sure that they really don’t look at your composite score??? I was going to study very very hart this summer to get it up, but if my scores are good enough and i am almost practically in, should i even bother trying to get it up??

Also the only volunteer work i have done is play in plays. I have not done any backbreaking labor volunteer work. Do you guys think i should go to habittat for humanity, or similar programs?

Also, georgia tech does not do an interview right?

they do not have an interview or look at the composite.
actually, they can take your best a sat part and an act part and use them.
i.e. 730 M/630 CR + 30 M/34 E = 730 M/34 E

I got in, this past year, with a 1280 on the SAT…the equivalence of a 29 on the ACT. Just letting you know, it looks like you have a great shot.

Anyway i was searcing their website to see if they superscore, and so far i have found no documents saying that they do. If someone could find a link, that would be awsome, because my dad does not believe me and we get into some arguments about it because one time i made a 35 in english and a 36 in math, but those were on different tests.

When i made a 35 in english i made a 30 in math.

When i made a 36 in math i made a 29 in english.

I think that the 33 and 33 was a balanced score.

But if i can submit, a 35 and a 36 then my dad owes me a new computer.

even if you cant superscore (and I believe you can), use your 36(Math)/29 score. You are above the 75th percentile for each and clearly with a 36 in math georgia tech will not turn you down.

yeah thanks for the advice. If it comes down to it i will do what you said.

On a side note, does georgia tech have 1 person dorms. The reason is that I have a documented sleep disorder. I am always up at odd hours of the day and sleep for 3 hours at a time and then wake up.

If i had a roommate i know this would bother the heck out of them. Does georgia tech make accomodations like that?
