I am applying to colleges..and my first choice is UCI...for my other ones..like back ups...which CSU's do you think will be good for majors like bio or chem..???...and im prob going to minor in psychology.....

Sorry the abbreviations sometimes throw me. Are you talking about California state universities? You might do a search on CC for “UCLA vs. USC biology”, for example, or check on the forums for the individual schools. Since biology is a common major, I suspect that you would just go to the school with the best overall academic quality that you could get into. Are you considering anything outside of California?

You may find some clues in this

Hi…

I’m from Calif, so I know the abbreviations…

UCI (Irvine) is a great school. Went there myself! LOL

As for Cal States…Long Beach, Fullerton, and San Diego are going to be your best choices for CSUs…and the Cal Polys are also great!

UCR can also be a safety, but some don’t like where it’s at.

What are your stats?

Are the UCs affordable? How much will your parents pay?

I also agree with the question…are you considering going outside of Calif?

edited to add

3.8 weighted
about a 1650 on the SATs (obv the SATs isnt my thing)…lol and a 24 on the ACT*

…your SAT and ACT are low, so you do need to be careful about your safety schools. Your ACT and SAT are equivalent. Are you retesting?

If money isn’t an issue, I suggest going out of state because your test scores are probably going to hurt you at UCs and the better Cal States.

Just a note for Hitch123: USC is neither a UC nor a CSU. It is a private university. :)

yes i am retesting…i took my SATs last weekend but i dont think i did better than maybe a 1700…and im taking the ACT in 2 weeks…and i hope to get around a 27-28…

CSU stands for the California State Universities, and it doesn’t mean all of the colleges in California but specifically the CSU system which is another public California univ system like the UCs but a step below. It’s a pretty common abbreviation on CC.
