"I Intend to Continue"

For the Common Application's Activities Section, there is a box to be checked if one intends to continue in college. I have played a sport for 12 years and I plan to play intramural NOT a legit team. Should I still check this? If I check this box, do schools come down to see me play? I do not want them to cause I'm not the greatest player. I just like playing the sport and want to continue. What do I do?

I doubt it; you’d have to contact the coach of your sport in order for them to see you play. I know there’s a line to fill out on the CA asking you to elaborate on leadership roles and such; you could mention that you want to play on an intramural team there.

I assume the question tells the adcom if you will contribute to their campus community in that particular EC… for example, would you continue playing oboe in a school orchestra… that sort of thing.

I wrote “Intend to play intramurals” is this grammatically correct. yes, i know its a fragment but i don’t know if i have to put “Intend to play at the intramural level” or “Intend to play intramurals”

i put that i will continue guitar. do they expect me to submit a supplement of me playing? i only want to do it as a hobby…

also i am in an honors wind ensemble right now. i want to continue my instrument in college and play in some ensemble for fun, but i do not want to be a pro or spend a lot of time on it. should i check i intend to continue even if i don’t want to devote a lot of my time to it?

anyone know if “intend to play at the intramural level” is correct or if “intend to play intramurals” is correct?

Either is fine.

polandsprings, yes, go ahead and check yes for both. They don’t ask if you will be playing in the symphony or in your dorm room or in the subway station for extra $$ Checking yes doesn’t mean you need to submit an audition, unless you are applying to the Music Dept, and they specifically ask for an audition tape as part of their suplemental. Hope this helps.

for honors wind ensemble, idk if i hsould check yes. honors wind ensemble is like a concert band. i might join a small thing for fun or maybe just continue trumpte in my room…so playing in a room and playing in an ensemble is diff…sooo what should i do?

also, does checking yes or no affect admissions?

Checking that you will continue an activity in college gives the adcoms an idea of what you bring to the institution. An applicant with a laundry list of activities, none of which he or she intends to continue in college, brings much less flavor to a college than does the single-minded literary magazine editor or the competitive debater who intends to continue these activities.
