I just auditioned

I just auditioned on February 2nd.

I’m sort of concerned. I was the last person to audition for the day. I was taken into the theater and was greeted, sang my two songs, did my monologue and that was it.

I was all prepared for a little interview and a little theory exam and such.

Nothing.

Is that bad?

The theory test is actually going to be something we give at orientation to those accepted - so no worries there!

I was worried too because I didn't take the test or get an interview. Eek! Good to hear that the test will be at orientation if we get in.

My D just had her audition this past weekend. For her it was a wonderful experience, and to say that she came away in love with the program would be an understatement!

To start with, she was very impressed with Amy Rogers and Rob Meffe. Aside from their professionalism, and all that would imply as far as the quality of education they would provide, they were the nicest, most welcoming of auditors. She really came away feeling that they care about their students as individuals. That nurturing atmosphere is probably THE most important factor to my D when sizing up a school. OH!...they made a great announcement at the info session...dance will now be offered in freshman year! It's clear that this is a program that's changing rapidly, and that they are commited to adjusting and making changes as necessary ensure a healthy growth of their program.

The students there were SO friendly! There were several of them present in the waiting room, helping everyone to feel relaxed and comfortable. They also attended the information session, and contributed greatly to the Q and A portion of that. It was evident that they have great admiration and yes, love!, for Amy Rogers and Rob Meffe. They are proud of their tight-knit MT "family" and see that as a very important aspect of their education at Pace.

After the audition, my D marveled at how Pace was once just a school on her "list", and now she finds it to be at the TOP of that list! We would encourage anyone who is interested in attending a program in NYC to put Pace on YOUR list. It's the real deal.

I actually feel somewhat shorted from my audition. Many of my friends got much more attention at the auditions (and had more auditors). Granted, my friends have received personal emails from Amy about them being considered.

All I hear are wonderful things about the faculty and such. And I just received sort of a coldness. Oh well.

jdganther,

I am very sorry you felt that way after your audition. We try our hardest to make everyone feel comfortable before, during, and after their audition. If you felt slighted, it was by no means on purpose. The man who played your audition was actually the 2nd auditor (there are never more than 2); our accompanist, as a working pianist, had to run to make her call time at a show. So dont feel slighted by that!

I am genuinley interested to hear what made you feel shorted so that we make sure that this doesnt happen again. We pride ourselves on the way we run our audtions and are open to any suggestions to make this experience easier and more comforting for the auditoners.

I know everyone is extremely nice and everyone was extremely nice at the auditions. I think I was just expected a more conversational tone like my friends told me about.

As I said, it could have just been the timing, a whole day of auditions and such. My friends told me about wonderful conversations and such and I think that's what I was expecting.

It was still a VERY comfortable environment though!

jdganther, try not to worry too much about the conversational aspect of your audition. Everyone will have a different experience, just as each person auditioning is a unique individual. My D's friend also related having extensive conversation, but that did not come as a surprise. My D's friend is an extremely interesting girl, with a very interesting resume. It's ok! Try to focus on the comfortable environment you remember experiencing, and be assured, you had their undivided attention during your audition. Best of luck to you!

jdganther - I wholeheartedly agree with triplethreatx3 that it is so much better to not worry about trying to read into the interview aspect. We have seen people get accepted, who felt they they blew it when they were asked questions, and people rejected, who had the longest discussions.

Did you say that some people are recieved personal emails from Amy about being considered? I didn't, so I take it that it's a bad thing that I haven't. :-P

I have only heard of girls who have gotten an email. Correct me if I am wrong.

I just wanna know, are we not even being considered if we haven't gotten an email? I'm a male, but still, it would be nice to know if I actually am being considered. :-P

Just because you didnt get an email doesnt mean you wont be accepted into the program. The emails sent out were not even real acceptances, they are a means of correspondance.

Thanks Hilary once again for spending so much time here clearing things up.
:-)

No problem :)

I didnt get an email either... and im a boy too.
maybe there are more girls than boys applying?

how do the auditions go?
is acting a separate audition than the vocal audition?
how is the dance audition?

the singing and acting audition was the same, for the same people.
there wasn't a dance audition last year, but i don't know if they'll have one this year.
they didn't talk to some people at all, but some people talked to them for like 10 minutes.
they were really great auditors.
pm me if you have anymore questions!

I recently auditioned for the musical theater program at Pace. Pace's program is my first choice for school, and my audition experience reaffirmed that! Some people have mentioned that Amy Rogers calls/e-mails people to notify them that they are being considered for admission. Should I be worried if she hasn't contacted me? I really want to go to Pace, the faculty seems terrific and I love that they focus so much on individuality. Thanks!

I'm glad you had a good experience and liked the program so much!

People in our freshman MT class had varied responses. Some received an email saying they were being considered, and then received a phone call or letter weeks or months later informing them of their acceptance (but alot of people got that email and weren't accepted). Then there were some freshman that didn't receive the email and just received a phone call or letter in April.
