I just bombed three subject tests. Is my chance gone?

Stanford's my top choice for schools, but I doubt I'm their top choice for students. My grades and extracurriculars and all that are great, but my SAT scores aren't. I'm taking it again in December and the score I'm sending right now is a 2090 (750 reading, 690 writing, 650 math). When I got the score I figured that it was a low score for Stanford, especially in math, but that I could prove that I was a good student with the rest of my application and with the subject tests.

Well, I don't think that's gonna happen anymore. I took the US History, Literature, and Math II subject tests yesterday and I'm predicting a score in the 600s for all three of them. I may even get scores in the low 600s for Lit and Math. It was bad. It was really, really bad. But I don't have time to take them again, so these are the only scores I can send...

Like I said, the rest of my application is fantastic. Plus, the high school I come from is pretty terrible. We have a high drop out rate, a low on-time graduation rate, etc. Do you think all of that could make up for sub-par SAT scores, or is my chance at getting into Stanford gone?

istaaa, I don’t do chances, but for the purpose of realistically evaluating your own chances, I have to point out that if your high school is “pretty terrible”, having a high GPA from there may not carry a lot of weight in the admissions process. Good luck.

600 SAT 2 scores are nothing to lament over. I sent in two 640’s, hey, they know we’re not perfect. A 640 isn’t BAD either, it’s just not “up there”. It won’t hurt you, or help you. Don’t worry too much.

wait to see your scores. personally, i would not recommend sending below 650 scores.

but you will also see that people do a lot better than they think because the subject tests are curved A LOT

I wouldn’t be so quick to jump to conclusions. The Math II and US History subject tests have very generous curves (you can omit up to -7 for the Math II test and up to -8 for the USH test for an 800).
