the number of ED applicants is about the same, or maybe a bit higher than that of last year.
i called cuz it seems like pton is quite popular this year.

they dont open file until the deadline anyway, cuz there are so many mails coming in each day.
i didnt get this one. did she mean they dont process it? or what? so they save like 20000 mails to be opened on one day?!?

Princeton will not increase class size this year. but they might play a bit with it if ppl are really close.
i think she meant they might admit like 20 - 30 more ppl? off the waitlist?

pls add any other info you found out there. thx.

Princetonwannabe - it sounds like you asked a lot of questions! Wow - I like that inquisitiveness. I just called to ask if my application was complete, I didn't ask anything extra so I can't tell you what else I found out. But could you please explain #2: were you asking them about your file? They can't have that many pieces of mail to open - there are only about 1600 ED applications (taking your point #1 into account).

For God's sake people, can't we just take it easy for once? We've all submitted our applications for ED and there's really not all that much you can do about it. Just buckle down and wait for December 15th or so. I know I am but at the same time, but I've taken this time to step back reevaluate thigns and do things I haven't had a chance to do in a while like spend time playing with my three year old sister. I know all of us are pretty anxious, but as they say, patience is a virtue. Many of us are used to instant gratification or "Xpress/EZ/Speedy" services but as we can all see, Princeton prefers to take things the old fashioned way (slowly and methodically, not even sending e-mails about admission decisions.) So, not to be a huckleberry but again, take it easy and relax. Enjoy the last year of high school now that you don't hafta worry about college applications and the like. Besides, even if you don't get in (myself included) chances are we'll all be going to pretty damn good places for the next four years. Princeton isn't the be all end all and even if you've "been wanting to go to Princeton since you could walk", the admissions people may not think so (and yes, I agree, the system is inherently flawed to begin with, but it's still fairly reasonable). And even if that does happen, you'll cry a river, build a bridge, and get over it.

They all want to take it easy, zoudini, they just cannot. It's natural to feel nervous and all. Even you are nervous, aren't you? That's why you check this board in the first place. If not, then excuse me for interrupting your rhetoric. It's a beautiful piece, by the way. :)

yeah for number 2. i called and asked whyi havnt received confirmation even though my teacher mailer her rec around 5 weeks ago. the officer told me to not worry that they dont process the files until the deadline anyway, for ed. i dont know if thats true. but thats what they said.

i asked a bunch of other questions before as well. i just thot i'd post what i found out today, since most other times its related to canadian applicants.

if you want here are some other things i remember

dont rush report. they say they will get it on time and they dont want u to waste money

dont call em about interview. they call you.

they say ab and bse have the same chance of getting in. and unsure is also fine.

i told her i got 1450 on my first try for sat. with 690 v. but i told her my top 3 sat 2s were 780 and 800 800. she said 690 is very strong testing already. and that sat is not as significant as it seems.

they want official ap reports. i asked this twice. they asked me to either get the official one from collegeboard, or get one from my school and have it sealed, which i did. that why it shows i cancelled phy c e/m section.

Wait a minute, they want official AP reports? Everyone I talked to said that this was optional and that they don't need official AP reports until you actually enroll (if you want advanced standing). How long does it take for the AP scores to get sent?

im sure they said that. i was confused too. she said something like"EITHER have your school send a SEALED OFFICIAL REPORT, or send us one from the collegeboard."

Thanks for posting Princetonwannabe, it's really helpful. Do post anything else you remember - I am still in awe of how many questions you asked!

zoudini - thanks for your inspiration or whatever that was about. I think most of us are calm here, even if we ask a lot of questions. Have you ever noticed how, after an exam some people want to talk about it: ("What did you put for X" ;"Did you answer question Y?"), and other people are glad it's over, and don't want to discuss it at all. You're probably the type who wouldn't want to discuss it at all. And that's fine. Just respect those of us who do.
On the other hand, I notice you are new around here, so you might not know it but, CC Princeton Discussions are highly fun and highly addictive :) Join in!

yeah, zant is right. if its on my transcript or your school is sending an official sealed document with your ap grades on there, than its fine.

come to think of it, it only makes sense. how can ap not be factored into the admission process? i mean they are much better predictors of student's academic ability than a one hour sat 2 exam. and they are college level work..

dont worry if you havnt sent official report. just call and ask. the two i spoke two says i need it. so i thot i might as well send it if some of them think i need it since its better to have it than not.

I wish that's the way they looked at it, P-dub. However, AP is rather underrated when it comes to the admissions process. It would help me out a whole lot in my case, but alas, it's of some importance, but not very much.

Come on Phil - APs are quite the important facot. They can be a good measure of how much a student loves to learn. And also how much they challenge themselves...
