Hey everyone, I don't know why but my reading test is really low compared to my other scores. I don't have a specific strategy for it because i just try to read the passage and answer the questions.
The problem is the reading, I don't know how you guys can read the passages so quick, I usually need around 5 mins a passage and then go to the questions but they usually require me to go back to the reading which takes even more time. Then when i realize how much time i lose i panic and try skimming the next passage but still can't answer questions so my reading test just consists of skimming and guessing. Can anyone help me? I really need to find a way to do this.

I went from 22 to 33 in reading… My problem was reading too thoroughly. If you need five minutes to get through the passages, you may be reading too thoroughly. See how well you can read a passage in 3 minutes. The idea is to read it briefly enough to understand the main points, conflicts, and controversies while taking note of the structure. Understanding the structure was good for me because it allowed me to locate specific information easier.

And, yeah, everyone attests to the badness of panicking… You’ll just have to trust yourself and the time you spent practicing.

Thank you! Any advise is greatly appreciated. And I hope I can make that big of a jump too congrats!

I read questions 1st, and I got from 22 to 31 in reading during my summer practice, it is recommended to do the princeton review method. Read regularly…read classics too.Good Luck:)

Thank you! I will try out different methods

guitartrombone gave a great answer. I just want to elaborate a little on panicking.

It is totally ok to feel anxious and be a little worried about time when taking the exam, sometimes that adrenaline can actually help you go faster. But it is not ok to let that feeling cause you to do dumb things.

Let yourself be anxious but continue to remind yourself that you can only answer the problems correctly if you actually understand the passages. Guessing is not helpful. It is better to finish most of the passages well than to finish all of them poorly. Use your anxiety to keep your mind focused on the question and the passage, don’t let it direct you towards bad strategies.
