I took the SAT for the first time in January and got:
800 CR
700 Math
770 Writing

Today I retook the test with the sole purpose of increasing my math score to a 750+ but I got -4 and probably even more than that, which would make my score around a 700 again. I just don't know how to get out of this 700 slump! I did all these practice problems in math, and I have like no improvement.

What am I supposed to do?! Should I retake the test in October or should I just give up my Ivy League dreams? Does it look ridiculous that I keep retaking the SAT for a less than 100 point increase?

it kind of does, id say your score is great even for ivy league just focus more on other stuff now....

I'm crossing my fingers for a 740 or 750, but we'll see!

Just do better on Math IIC to make up for it.

I kind of don't want to take any more subject tests though...
I got a 770 Bio, 780 USH, 720 Lit, 700 Math IC (from freshman year). I'm probably retaking math and lit, but I don't see the point of taking Math IIC in addition to that.

Take math again and hope for 750+. That should make up for it.

Send all of your scores to whatever colleges you want to apply to. Then re-take either the SAT or the SATII Math. If you increase your math score, then re-send the scores to the colleges. If you don't increase your math score, then don't send the scores and the colleges will never know you took the test again.

Should I cancel my June 2007 score? I think my score went down...

Are you sure your score went down? Look over the entire thread for this SAT and see what you think. If you really think it went down, then cancel it. You have until noon on Wednesday, I think. My son cancelled his first SAT because he didn't turn the page and left over 8 blank on one section. He also didn't know about 4 of the vocab words. I am really glad he cancelled, because he did great the second time.

Regardless of whether or not you cancel, if money is not an issue, I still stand by my previous post- send your January score now to all of the colleges you want to apply to, or think you want to apply to, then re-take either the SATII math or the SAT in October. If your score increases, then re-send them to all of the colleges. If it doesn't increase, all they will see is your January SAT and all of the subject tests you have already taken. Your scores are great. My best friend got in PENN with a 730M, 690V, 720W. You are well within the range for the Ivies- now you need to set yourself apart in other ways. My other friend's son had a 2350 with 4 subject over 760 and did not get in Princeton and was waitlisted at Yale. SO, with your socres, I wouldn't sweat it. I would focus on GREAT essays, contacting the schools, getting great recs from teachers ,etc. Hope that helps. That is what made the difference between the two boys and why one got in and the other didn't. It wasn't the scores.

stop complaining, people would do anything for those kinds of scores

you need the Math IIc in order to get into a lot of the ivys. They don't take Math Ic.

damn..i would kill for those kinds of scores..especially that CR score....

Check the admission criteria for the particular schools. Not one of them say Math 2 is the only Math subject they will accept. The curve is better for the Math 2, but unless specifically going into engineering, either Math one or Math 2 are fine.

how many can you miss and get a 700?

An 800 in CR looks more prestigious than an 800 in Math...

yeah so much more ppl get perfect math than the other ones

ill take your writing score and CR score please!
