I took the May SAT, and one of the school that I sent my scores to was Clemson. I just received a letter from them stating that they got my scores and (I quote) "In light of your outstanding SAT scores and the detailed information you provided about your high school record, we would like to offer you provisional acceptance to Clemson University for fall 2010." I didn't know things like this happened, and I was just wondering if it has happened to anyone else this year. Does this mean I would get a better financial aid package (i.e. - more scholarships and/or grants), or is it just guaranteeing my acceptance? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I had only thought about going to Clemson mildly until I saw this, but it actually sounds like they really want me.

yep you have basically been accepted to clemson! It happens if you send them your SAT scores junior year and they’re really good, you seem to be in a position to possibly get an academic scholarship from clemson

Thanks, guys. I haven’t researched Clemson too much, but I really like the Carolina area (I vacation there every year). Can anyone shed some light on the quality of the business school?

Ok, I just recently sent my scores to Clemson (1400) and haven’t gotten anything yet. I’m taking the SAT’s again on Saturday so hopefully I’ll get something similar to you. It would be nice to know I’m locked in some place.

It sounds to me like they’re trying to recruit you, it sounds like you’re one of their more qualified applicants. Don’t make any decisions yet, you may want to look into your other options.

Yeah, I’m far from making a decision. I’ve done far too little research on Clemson, and I’m not even sure if I want to leave my state yet (Pennsylvania). If I did, however, it would almost undoubtedly be farther south on the east coast, for various reasons. So, in terms of location, it can work for me. But I am still unsure about the academics and the size, among some other things.

well shaneomac9122, if you have any questions, I’ll be at orientation next weekend so I can get some questions answered for you and I will be there in the fall!

It’s likely that you might receive an academic recruiting scholarship - this year they were worth $14K per year, which in effect reduces the overall cost to that of an in state student. Clemson has become an increasingly competitive school to enter, but in an effort to boost national rankings they actively recruit out of state students that meet your profile. Best wishes as you consider your options.

Hobie, I assume you attend (or attended) Clemson, so maybe you could provide any information on the business school there. As in: reputation, job recruiting/placement, rigor of the program, etc. Thank you in advanced.

Consider looking into the National Scholars Program. If they’re this serious about recruiting you, you might have a good shot at it. It’s a full ride scholarship – tuition, fees, room & board, stipend, international travel. They recently changed it so that you have to apply rather than being invited to attend the interview weekend.
