I just got accepted.

@chaos: it’s probably b/c you are too good for UCI! :)

rejected! :frowning:
3.7 GPA UW, 32 ACT, 4 APs

kind of my downfall since i applied to the biz school -_-
but got accepted into SB and waitlisted @ SD!

I got a D fall semster in AP calc so i cant appeal ■■■ :(

To the people appealing, are you guys gonna include letter of rec? It says to not send one unless they request it.

SAT: 2250, UC GPA:3.88. S Got into UCD, UCSB and UCSD but got rejected by UCI. A little confused but it is what it is. UC admission is not exact science.

I’m currently a junior in high school and I just wanted any kind of good advise so that I can have a better chance at UCI. I’m 100% Asian, if that matters. My stats are:
Weighted: 4.0
UC: 3.6
SAT: 1950
ACT: Should I take it?
SAT2: Should I take any?
4 year Key Club
ASB 2 years
Senate 2 years
AP club 3 years
College Club 4 years
Solutions Club 2 years
Creasian 4 years
Varsity Swim 2 years
JV wrestling 1 year

^^^ UC’s are not looking at SAT score much. You can be accepted with a 4.2 UC GPA 1700 SAT combo but denied with a 3.6 UC GPA 2200 SAT combo (ironically shown by the poster before you, weimin). I really don’t know why they diminish the SAT score so much but whatever.

Nevertheless, getting a higher SAT score will definitely help so if you want to make yourself competitive for mid tier and top tier UC’s here is what you need to do.

Get a 2050+ SAT, 2100 would be great. Try the ACT if you want.

DO TAKE SAT 2’s. They don’t look at these as much either but when your done with apps, don’t you wanna say you gave it your all? I suggest MATH 2 and your best science. If you can’t take a science, do history or something.

Your in your last semester of high school grades that count, so make sure you get straight A’s and reference this upward trend in your application.

You need to make at least one of your personal statements a sob story to explain the GPA. Without an explanation for your low gpa, it will be hard.

Apply to the easier majors. UCI has released admission stats by major somewhere on their website. If you can’t find it, just PM me. You can easily switch majors when you are in the school. For SD, don’t pick anything with biology in its name, and if you do just make sure your alternate is an easy one. You can’t do any engineering majors.

Start working on your personal statements early. These are going to be what get you in. By early I mean summer time.

NOTE: When applying to some of these UC’s and you reference a medical disability, special talent or whatever, you WILL be sent a supplement in January. This will ask for your 1st semester senior grades. If you can put down you got straight A’s and you write a good essay for the supplement, you have a good shot.

Doing this will help you with private universities as well, who care much more about SAT scores than UC schools do. If you can’t do all of this, just make sure you at least write a good not generic or fake sob story.

If you think you got rejected because UCI didn’t think you’d attend (due to your above average stats), just send an appeal letter. I think they just want to make sure you actually want to go. Me and my friends who got rejected (but accepted to UCSD) with slightly above avg stats all got in with appeal letters, and we were pretty terrible writers back then.

For all freshmen accepted to UCI, you guys should join the Class of 2016 page https://www.facebook.com/groups/UCI2016/</a> :)
