I just got in...and I am lost...

As excited as I am, I have already become accustomed to the university where I sent in my deposit. However, I am seriously considering going to Stanford because it always was my dream school.

Can anyone give me more info on the biology program at Stanford? Pre-med stats? Dance groups? Dorms?

Any info is much appreciated! (I have until Friday to decide!)

Biology at Stanford is extremely good, Stanford and Duke are seen to be some of the best colleges in Biology.
If it is your dream school, then seriously go.

I suggest you also post these questions on the Stanford facebook 2013 group. You will regret not going to Stanford. Don’t pass up this terrific opportunity that thousands of others would “die” for. And congratulations!

Do they have a facebook group? The only one I found had about 30 something members.

i completely understand what you’re going through right now. i’m still in shock, and i was so in love w my original school that I don’t kno that much about Stanford at all (though it def was my dream school :/). i also looked for the FB group, but couldn’t find it.

i think i might post my questions on the main forum to compare colleges as well. but hte main questions that concern me are whether or not stanford would prepare me for law school as much as a small liberal arts college and the quality the career services center (i would like to find internships for each summer).

Here’s the one you’re looking for:

I say go for it. You may be “accustomed” to the school where you sent in your deposit, but it won’t take long to get used to Stanford.

If it has always been your dream school, then you will probably always regret turning it down.

We can’t join unless we’re officially in the Stanford network tho. Does that mean we have to have a Stanford email or something like that?

^Really? I joined without being in the network. If what you say is true, I think it’s because of some people, claiming to be admits, who joined the group and friended everyone to get email addresses, eventually sending an email to these admits asking for their applications for an admission-prep service.

If I were you, I’d try contacting the group admin. Because I’m pretty sure you need an email to join the network (not 100% on this, though).

It wasn’t like that before. I guess they closed it since it’s so late after May 1.

Yeah, the admin said there was too much spam so they closed it. That’s just sad people would resort to doing that though :/

you did need an @stanford.edu email address, and therefore a SUNet ID, to join the Stanford network on Facebook. To get a SUNet ID you must enroll, I believe.

oh rats. but hey, we have you guys to help us decide :)

Are Stanford dorms modern? Do they have central air?

kasiiaaa, the Stanford website has lots of information and can answer most of your questions.

None of the dorms are air-conditioned, since the weather is so nice, with only a few really hot days during the regular school year. My S is staying for summer school in an on-campus apartment. He has a fan and is comfortable so far. Of course, some of the dorms are quite old, but Stanford has done a good job remodeling them. Some are new. I think the dorm rooms are pretty nice compared to some that I have seen at other schools. There are pictures and floor plans of housing at: [Undergraduate Housing at Stanford](http://www.stanford.edu/dept/rde/shs/ugrad/tour_ugrad_house.htm)

Average dorm room size is increasing this year, too, since they finished off the new graduate housing. That freed up a lot of space for undergrads. That means a lot of rooms that used to be doubles will become singles or half of a two-room double, and things like that.

That’s great. Thanks guys.

Also, about financial aid…I don’t have my package yet, but do they give a lot of loans? And if you do get finaid, does every student really have to contribute a minimum of $4,500?

^yes, every student must contribute $4500 (I could be mistaken though).

Student Contribution $2000- can be paid w/ outside scholarships or summer earnings

Additional $2500- can be paid thru federal work-study.

kasiiaaa, the FA office [Stanford FA Undergrad Basics](http://www.stanford.edu/dept/finaid/undergrad/) determines what portion the student will have to pay (it could just be the $4,500 that the student is expected to earn each year or it could be more, depending on what the student’s assets are), and what portion the parents will have to pay. If you add those 2 together and the total is less than the Cost of Attendance, Stanford will offer that remaining amount as FA. Students are not offered loans as part of the Student Contribution. Parents, on the other hand, may want or need to take out loans for their portion.
