I just got into NYU but I'm not going because...

I can't afford it.

They offered me an 8k transfer scholarship, 6k grant, 4.5k subsidized loan and a 6k unsubsidized loan. That's 24.5k in aid. Not bad, but I'd then have to take out an 18.5k pivate loan to cover the rest of tuition, per year. I have been denied this amount from private lenders without a co-signer. I have no co-signer.

Ah well. I'm going to Pace University. They are offering me a 13k transferscholarship, 5k grant and 10.5k in federal loans. That's 28.5k to cover 33k in tuition. Much more affordable as you can see. Plus I looooove down town Manhattan and can hop on the 4, 5 or 6 from City Hall to chill with you NYU hipsters! Lower East Side, bi+ches!

There's always grad school! Good luck to all hopeful applicants, and congratz to those who've been admitted! :-)

I wish I were a trust fund baby. Chucha de la madre.

What was your EFC?

Yeah, I want to know too if you’re willing, what was your EFC? I understand if you don’t want to share because it is private. Thank you.

I would actually prefer Columbia if I could go there. I’m admitted to Stern. NYU operates more like a corporation than a school.

And Columbia operates more like a research facility than a school (says the girl with far too many friends all throughout Columbia).

My EFC is 8975.

I’m also an independent student so they really shoulda dished me out some more cash. Actually, the 6k federal loan IS for independent students I hear.

Whatever. I already knew what I was in for. It’s NYU.

Oh dear, they left THAT MUCH of your need unmet? Did you ask for more finaid once you received your initial package?

During my senior year, my EFC was 0 (oh, yes, that was a supremely fun year), and I didn’t get any more aid beyond a couple thousand in work-study funds. It was awesome in the worst way possible.

awww that sucks. How did you survive in NYC? You must have had some loans right?

I had some money saved up, though not a lot. The work-study funds definitely helped, as well as a scholarship I had gotten from NYU, but yeah, the rest went on loans.

ya sounds depressing. I’ll def. be doing work study but I know I’ll need another part time job/pain internship. Is it possible to juggle both jobs and school?

Yes, I appealed my package. First, when I called I was an idiot and asked to REPEAL my aid instead of APPEAL my aid and the counseler laughed at me over the phone which was stupendous. Anyway, he said that if I get anything it’ll probably just be an increase of 1 to 3k.

So yes, they left THAT much of my need unmet.

During senior year, I had a work-study job, a 20-hour/week internship, and was writing a 75±page thesis on top of my regular courseload. I managed it just fine. You just need to be able to manage your time effectively and make sure you’re not doing more work than you need to.

i read that theres this nyu wagner scholarship goin around??? can anybody explain what its all about???
