I just got into UC Berkeley for Philosophy!

not that berk is bad, mind you. i’m just saying… minus the carcinogenic air, pot holes, and Lindsay Lohan, it’s pretty great over here. plus, all the girls are pretty… you ain’t gonna see too much of that at cal ;)

a lot of my decision would have been based on the financial aid package berkeley would have offered…

i like both schools a lot… and the rhetoric program at Cal particularly interests me, but what i’d have done…

in a way, a slightly humiliating way, i’m happy not to have to make the decision.

hey… lindsay lohan totally redeemed herself with this: [Lindsay Lohan’s eHarmony Profile from Lindsay Lohan and Eric Appel](http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/0d646e2edb/lindsay-lohan-s-eharmony-profile)

Pinker: What were your stats when you applied to Cal’s Rhetoric major? or did you apply under philos?

my stats are listed on the first page of this thread…

i applied philosophy because i thought i’d get a leg up having taken 8 classes from the phil departments at either Pierce or SBCC, earning A’s in all but ‘intro’ (one of the two C’s on my transcript, received 4 years ago). i’d also taken courses with similar titles as berkeley’s phil prereqs (that, to my knowledge, aren’t articulated at any CCC campus).
i feel like i should have applied to rhetoric, though… i think fewer than 50 transfer students apply straight to rhetoric each year, and most get in.

eh, whatever.

eh. she’s still single-handedly funding columbia’s economy.

LA is probably more suitable for you anyways. It has this cold-edge that makes it tougher for people to make it. Maybe this is true about any big city, but I think NorCal is friendlier than down here. LA contains the cheeriest bunch of haters you’ll ever meet.
It sure builds character… ha!

i’m one of those haters… and i’ve lived in LA for 6 years.

Yo Pinker dont feel so bad. UCLA definitely has as much prestige as Cal, and its location is better too. Some of my friends go there and they love it… and UCLA campus > Cal Campus. If you are tired of LA you could also go to UCSD or Davis.

don’t get me wrong… i’m perfectly happy and incredibly proud to attend UCLA… and their phil department is right on par with berkeley’s. will you be there too, next fall?

Im still a freshman heh…Applying this fall and I’m nervous already!

good luck … .

hey hey i’ve been here my whole life, i win AWARDS at the haters ball.

Sophia,
Funny… I’m actually leaning toward UCLA right now BECAUSE of my sweatshirt. I didnt buy any CAL gear yet and I have a huge amount of UCLA stuff… so why not utilize them? lol

Maybe it’s because I’m Asian which by nature makes me hella cheap… Seriously man, I spent over $500 on UCLA gear already. What am i going to do? Keep them stored? F’ that.

hah! $500 on UCLA gear is a strange definition of ‘cheap.’

izzy, haha!

lol totally didnt see it that way. i meant that i am so cheap to the point where im going to pick a school just because i have spent money on the gear already and dont want them to go to waste.

I still have this UCLA Baseball cap an ex from HS bought for me. I’m going to pick up some new UCLA gear this week fasho.

funny thing about college gear… i never had the balls to wear any of it while at CC. i wanted a berkeley / ucla sweatshirt so badly last year, but just couldn’t do it… i imagined that i’d run into someone i hadn’t seen in a while… “hey, man! so you’re at UCLA? … Nah, Pierce… Oh, that’s cool, i guess…”
call me proud, but i just couldn’t take that risk.
it’s seriously THAT much more satisfying repping that **** now.
seriously.
i’m fer serious, right now.
definitely.

My Asian friend wears her UCLA sweatshirt from high school around (she spent $50 on it, so why not wear it?) and once got stopped by a really old alum who graduated in the '40s only to feebly tell him she actually goes to UCR.

When I chill at UCLA with my friends and meet their friends I have to go through the whole routine of them asking my major, then asking which res hall I live in only for me to tell them that I actually go to SMC. Half of them give me an “oh…” and the other half think it’s a joke that I go to CC.

I’ll just rep my gear HARD next year when I get in >:]
