balch hall, single?
it's purportedly a very good room assignment, and i'm thrilled with it;
can anyone give me a bit more info about it?

I lived in a single in Balch this past year. Most singles in Balch are huge and come with some pretty cool items - armchair, bookshelf, vanity table, full-length mirror. It’ll be connected to a sinkroom that you’ll probably share with your neighbor…really convenient for washing up, etc. You get two large closests (one full of drawers, one with hanging space) that also give you lots of storage room.

I really loved my room, as did all my Balch friends…we all wished we could stay there all 4 years! You’ll really appreciate the spacious room/closets and the sink when you see where some of your friends in the other dorms live.

I got the hall that I wanted (HILC).

I’m kind of weirded out by the fact that my assigned roommate is 24 years old, though. That, and he hasn’t responded to the message I sent :/

Anybody have an opinion on the low rise buildings?
Thanks

who knows what kind of life lessons he might have :P

my teacher told me to give it at least a week to 10 days for your roomie to respond, and to be weirded out after THAT time frame.
he might have stuff going on… i was going to say graduation, but then again, he is 24 years old…

My D got her assignment. She got a single in Jameson. She requested a double and is really bummed she won’t have a roommate to bond with.

Can this be changed or will she get a lousy match if she asks for a roommate now?

^take the single! it might seem disappointing now but during the school year there is much to appreciate about having a bit of private space for only you.

^ Seconded. But if your daughter is really intent on switching, I’m sure there are tons of people who were assigned doubles and would love to switch into her single.

All girls dorm. Experiment.

And, YES take the single. She should be extremely, extremely happy with the single. Nothing is worse than getting a random roommate who you don’t get along with; it’ll ruin her first semester like it did mine. If she needs an explanation/reason to feel better: people, especially at cornell, are extremely diverse. The odds of finding someone similar than not is against her. She’ll bond with everyone on her floor/classes/orientation mates. North campus during the first week is as social as social gets.
