I'm so excited! I never expected to get one of these fabled envelopes, but it has arrived nonetheless. Are students still calling people who have gotten them? I'm OOS if it matters. Thanks.

whats a likely letter

"thanks for sending in your distinguished application....etc". means you're pretty much in.

there was an old thread with the "Likely Letters" as main topic http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/archive/index.php/t-20247.html

I got mine today. Dated Feb 25 2005. This was independent of the Robertson Scholars finalist thing I got on Saturday.

I was just mentioning the site for anyone who wanted information.
congrats by the way, i'm sure it has made your day...or even your month!
=)

Thanks so much nckid101! I read that thread and it got me even more excited, although I'm not holding my breath for the honors program or merit money. The letter definitely has made my month-- now I feel like my life is clearly divided into two eras, as this is the first good news I have heard from a college so far :)

I got one too apparently. I just thought that it was a standard "Thanks for applying", but I guess not. Does anybody know how many they send out? And does being in-state have anything to do with it? (I suppose it does...)

Has any UNC applcant got Robertson Scholars letter? When do they send the letter? Thanks.

They have already sent the letter. They were sent last week. And if you were named a finalist you should have already scheduled a phone interview either today or tomorrow. They are cutting the 120 finalists down to 90 after the phone interview. We hear back this Thursday.

got my likely today. i like dartmouth's so much better, but hey, a likely letter is a likely letter, and the Carolina weather def. can't be beat =)

Yoohooo I got a letter too! Hey taurostorus, our screen names are almost the same! Anyway, I am so happy I got this letter. I got one from UVa too and it was really exciting because all the other people that got it had sats in the high 1400s and all these excellent test scores and then I slip in there with the good stats but not excellent. My letter was dated March 4, I am from Arizona. My stats are:
1300 SAT (650, 650)
SATSII 660/650/620
GPA 4.32
AP Bio 4, AP US History 4
Good essays, great recs, great ecs
Also I am a minority so I think that helped a little with my lower oos SAT score.

wow, we do have similar SNs! =) I got a likely at from UVa too. so... left w/ the choice of the two top publics, which one are you leaning towards? I'm not really into UVa just 'coz it seems too frattish and it feels like the bigger version of my high school (in fact, a third of our seniors usually end up there).

I thought that I was only going to have UVa as my choice but I am so happy that I got a letter from UNC too. So you sound pretty confident that this letter means that we are in. I hope you all are right. Now that I got this letter I am leaning towards UNC. I forgot how much of a frat school UVa is, so that is kinda turning me off from it now. Also UVa wants fives for AP Macro and Micro test! I think that is crazy. I know that there is no way I can get a five on those tests and UNC only needs threes so I think that makes me want to go there more. I am not only basing my reason on that though. That would be pretty stupid. I heard that NC is beautiful from so many people. I also hear that Virginia is gorgeous. I don't know. There are decisions now! I really don't want to go to such a snobby school full of drunk frat guys so I am not sure about UVa. Also UNC has a much better study abroad program than UVa. Does anyone know how long it takes to get from UNC to cool cities like D.C. or New York. I have never really been on the east coast but I really want to visit these cities and I know that from UVA, D.C. and NYC are relatively close.

a drive from unc to nyc is about 10 hours. 5-6 hours to D.C. 7-8 hours to philly.

UVa might be relatively close to d.c. (~3-4 hr-ish), but it is NOT close to NYC. i live in northern VA and it takes 4-5 hrs to get to NYC (depending on how much you speed, hehehe), and i'd say an 8-hr drive is not a very quick trip.

How many people from your school got likely letters from UNC? My school had four, with a most likely fifth person. We are in-state and from a rural county, so I was wondering if this may have been a reason. Does being in-state help out?

I was the only one to get a letter out of several applicants.
