I just got my semester grades- so mad

I just got my semester grades and I was definitely surprised- I received a B in AP Psychology... I had a 94.6% and a 91.6% for the two quarters, which means I would need a 75.1% on the final. I received a 76.6% on the final, definitely close there but it's black and white that I deserve the A and that no rounding up is involved. But instead, I got a B. I emailed my teacher to talk to him about it on Monday, not sure what to do at this point and I'm not even sure if semester grades can be changed now.

Anyone have a similar experience?

Are you sure you did the math right?

It’s okay; One B won’t kill you. I’m sure you’re upset just as I am about some of my grades, but a B will not be your undoing

I got one A- in my best subject. ARRGH!

I understand that one B won’t kill me, but why settle for less when I know that I do not deserve it? I find it ironic that this happened because he gave a speech in class about “help me help you” and how he will help us until he gets fired.

I just hope at this point it is possible to change semester grades. Anyone know anything about that?

teachers can change grades even after you graduate. If there’s a discrepancy, it’s never too late but try to fix it before your grades get sent to colleges

Ok thanks for the information. Wish me luck :(

according to my calculations, if a 90% = an A, and quarters are worth twice as much as the midterm (the case in my school), you would have needed a 77.6% to get an A.

It all depends on what percentage of his/her grade the midterm was. It could have been 10-20 (on average)%.

According to my school, quarters are each 40% and final exam is 20%. 89.5% counts as an A

I wish 89.5 were an A at my school…I would have straight A’s since 9th grade and none of those nasty 89.9=B+'s

I calculated your grade to be right around 89.8%. If your schools rounds 89.5 and up to a 90 you should an A, as you stated.

Different teachers do it differently. Some of my teachers say 89.5 is an A and some teachers don’t round.

Are you sure your Psych teacher rounds? Because to get a 90 you would have had to get a 77.6 on your final.

I assume he does since he gave us a speech about how “he will help us with our grades until he gets fired”. He is a nice guy and kind of out of it when it comes to things such as technology and math, sort of in his own world. Hopefully it is just a misunderstanding that we can resolve.

Assuming. Bad.

Perhaps he doesn’t round. In that case, you’re stuck with the B.

I doubt the actual truth behind these words.

Either he’s a tech klutz like you said, or he just simply doesn’t round.

And he’s probably pretty disappointed about your final grade. It’s obvious that you didn’t take his class seriously and just winged it (I’m guilty of that myself).

I got screwed in AP Chemistry.

The teacher didn’t factor in my-retake right and he refuses to look for it.

Hmmm. Weird. At my school, all grades are flat. If you have two A’s, any percentage, you can get as low as a C, any percentage, and get a semester A. We determine semester grades with this little chart rather than with math. Percentages mattering. I never thought of such a thing.

^Intriguing. But I don’t quite comprehend.

What does the chart grade you on?
