You can always look into transfer if you are in US. If you sit around and say UT or bust then you won’t ever make it from India to US.

Your school seems to have messed up on the GPA and that is the reason you are being rejected everywhere. There is absolutely no correlation between 3.2/4.0 GPA and 44/45 predicted IB score. Anyone reaching 38/45 or above in US would normally be in the top 1% of class with perfect GPAs in US.

I am applying now. These schools aren’t popular here and I never knew about them till now. But I am applying now. Do you have any more suggestions for the colleges?

Apply to Canadian universities now if you’re okay going there. There are quite a few good universities for CS/CE in Canada and they are due later usually.

McGill would be a good idea to apply to - their application takes 20-30 minutes; no essays, no recommendations. Just fill it all out and send. You have a low GPA, but your high IB predicted could get you in CONDITIONALLY.

Also look at UBC and Waterloo. Both are great for CS/CE, and you have a chance there (I think) due to your high predicted. Since Canadian unis offer conditionally, you have to actually get a high score in the finals.

I’m guessing you’re from India (considering your username), and I can tell you that UBC and Waterloo are fairly well known internationally for CS/CE… even in India (where I currently live).

Many students transfer from schools for whatever reason but getting accepted to harder to get into programs is not something that might happen.

I know you may get into University of Houston or Lamar (25k tuition for OOS) and M2CK seems to think you can make it to UA (I am not so sure but she knows more). CE is usually the most competitive engineering program at most schools. There is no harm in applying to 5 or more schools to see how things go but not applying implies you are willing to stay in your country.

I have heard Imperial College in UK is one of the best but I don’t know if their deadlines passed.

In my opinion, someone with a 44 predicted and 2030 SAT should be able to do a lot better than U of Alabama… as good as the school may be. You really need to get the GPA calculation problem sorted out ASAP and see what it actually is. The discrepancy between a 44 and 3.2, as previously mentioned, is phenomenal.

If you get that GPA bumped up, I recommend applying to WPI.

I agree completely. This poster can do a lot better.

All of these schools are ranked higher than Alabama by the NRC

Penn State
Arizona State
Case Western 1/15 deadline
Iowa State
Virginia Tech 1/15 deadline
Ohio State 2/1 deadline
University of Massachusetts Amherst 1/15 deadline
University of Kentucky 2/15 deadline
University of Colorado Boulder 1/15 deadline
North Carolina State 2/1

While the predicted IB is mostly irrelevant, the discrepancy between a 117 TOEFL, other test scores, and the GPA is staggering. Obviously, one cannot trust your GC as far as GPA and IB predictions.

You need to find help from a competent advisor who can develop a correct approach and accurate application. It is doubtful you had this luxury so far.

Not sure he can find advisors in India, we are it xiggi!

I am curious about 2360 in SAT II. I was reading it as 3 subjects and that accounts for a high IB score prediction but I want to confirm that is the case.

*I agree completely. This poster can do a lot better. *

You’re missing the point. alabama would be a safety that would surely accept him. No one is saying that he couldn’t possibly getting accepted anywhere else that might be better…but this student needs an acceptance in his pocket…and quickly.

That said, his GPA is an issue. He admits that his Junior Year has grade issues. That can be a show-stopper for admittance at some schools…maybe particularly eng’g schools.

Again, he MIGHT be able to get accepted elsewhere, but those will be match/reaches that might reject him…and this student needs a safety.
