I just got waitlisted to the UofMN TC

SO I just got waitlisted and Im not sure how. But more of how do i get in before I have to decide on other colleges. I updated my grades and the grades were pretty good, just 2 Bs and all A’s. I also kept up with the majority of my ecs. Lastly, I sent basically 2 letters of continued interest. My grades arent the best but I was still in state and had alumni relations.

How do I get off the waitlist and be accepted? And does this waitlist basically mean im accepted but there needs to be space for me? Thanks.

Not sure, I just got waitlisted as well. What are your stats?

they were pretty low but somehow i still got waitlisted, also instate

What are your stats?

Ok , you will not get accepted by the may 1 deadline for 90% of the colleges out there, there is a push for schools to move to June1 to give you Sr’s more time but that is a double edge sword, it seems schools will dip into the waitlist more than usual this year bc of the loss of international kids not coming to the US next fall which helps you, but on the other side of the ledger more kids may opt to stay closer to home or instate which may not help you. Waitlist does Not mean your in and they need to make room for you , it means if enough kids who were accepted decline Uminn they may dip into the waitlist to fill spots, the odds are stacked against you, plan accordingly and put a deposit down somewhere else and be prepare to go there, if Uminn offers you a spot off waitlist, you decide if you are gonna take it, you will lose your deposit at the school you choose May 1, good luck.

Can I send another LOCI (letter of continued interest) Or sending anther one wont really do anything for me? So what youre saying is that I most likely should commit to another school that I already got in? The other one that im looking at also extended their commitment day to June 1, so do you think I should continue giving UMN a try or what are you saying?

If the school you were accepted at extended it’s commit date to June 1st, you may as well wait it out until then to see if MN gives you a spot.

Waitlist will be tougher this year with some schools moving to June 1, you will have to deposit somewhere else and hope for the best. There will be a spot opening in Carlson as my son is declining his spot tomorrow AM, can not commit OOS dollars w/o seeing the school and the less than stellar aid package. Good luck.

Im planning to send another LOCI to the admissions office

They are anticipating a 20% reduction in enrollment next year so chances might be good for the waiting list. One of the regents wants the U to go ahead and accept the entire waitlist.

Do you have an affordable acceptance?
If UMN admits you, can you afford it?

My son is withdrawing today, he was accepted to UW Madison and received a nearly fully inclusive aid package. Although he got reciprocity to MN, it was still about 25k in loans because he got 0 scholarships or grants here.
Good luck to whoever gets his place! He was accepted EA on the first roll out in September and confirmed right away…so his spot has been secured for months. We hope that whoever gets his spot loves the university as much as he did!

Yes we can afford it no problem. Additionally, The U is the cheapest because we are also instate and I have some scholarships.

@CheddarcheeseMN How do you know? Where did you get that information? Because if thats true then that is awesome because Im reeally wanting to go to the U. But as someone said earlier, im assuming a lot of internationals might cancel so some space might open up

@mamadtb thats awesome! I hope his open spot allows me to get in and attend the U. Best of luck to him

@CChuck500 Minnesota thinks we make bank and WI thinks we are poor, so staying in-state it is! Good luck! He got an email a couple of hours ago that they withdrew his application, so hopefully that bumps someone else up soon!

wow that certainly is relieving for people on the waitlist like me. But what are the people who are on the board of regents? DO their recommendations or words mean anything or is it likely that they will listen to him? From what it seems, the logical common sense is to listen to him to minimize money loss

I just got off the waitlist yesterday!

My S had withdrawn his application (was already accepted by UMN but somehow it was called withdraw) after getting in to his Ed school. Got an email today asking if he wanted to reactivate his UMN app.
