I was driving a friend to the city an hour away and got into a collision where my my back wheel was wrecked (towed away).

My parents have to drive several hours to pick it up and they refuse to let me cover any costs and I feel like utter **** right now. This is my first car accident and I just want to puke. Most likely since my family can't afford the higher insurance i'm going to give up driving and not have car for a while.
Just hope they can figure out the finances ok, I really feel like utter **** and there's a calculus midterm tomorrow as well as a big essay due. =/

Is this what they refer to when saying "experiences" in college? I just want to drop everything and lie under my covers for the next week...

Don’t worry about it. Accidents happen. I’ve had car accidents before, but nothing to serious. I’ve gotten tickets which have raised my parents insurance and THAT made me feel like ****. Just apologize to your parents, they’ll understand and see that you’re growing up and maturing.

I know how you feel; my car got hit over the summer while I was driving to school. That was one of the worst days of my life… but I actually got out of the hospital the following week and ended up getting A’s in all four of my classes.

I was driving down US-50 EB to Bethany Beach, DE in my dad’s truck. He let my mom borrow it for the week (they’re divorced) so we could carry all our ****. It was me, my mom, my sister and her friend. I was going pretty fast I admit, but I was just keeping pace with the traffic. Normally this would be okay except:

-It was raining REALLY hard
-The truck was a piece of trash with horrible steering and the tires were probably balding

Anyway, we’re in the leftmost lane when I hit a huge puddle (I didn’t see). The car hydroplaned and skidded, went into the other lane, then slammed into the left guard rail, bounced off, then slide against it again for about 50 feet before coming to a stop. Nobody was injured, and our vehicle was the only one involved. Firefighters and cops came, and I actually got a god damn ticket for it but oh well. The tow truck driver who came to pick us up said he saw the puddle and wasn’t surprised… he said he nearly hit it too.

The damages: the axles were destroyed, the tires were destroyed (and two wheels were as well), the fuel line got cut, I think the engine might have died, both fenders were screwed up and made it impossible to open the trunk gate, the driver’s door required lots of effort to open, and who knows what else. Insurance called it a total loss, and my dad was obviously ****ed, but I think they’re gonna pay him what the car was worth since to them it was an accident so it’s all good (he was trying to get rid of the thing anyway >_>)

I just recently bought a new car and I parked it on the side street of my house. Not much more than a month later, some ***** scrapped the paint off the bumper. I’m unbelievably ****ed because it’s so obvious that she hit my car (paint on her bump is IDENTICAL to my scratches) and she doesn’t want to take responsibility.

I’m sure my insurance will cover it but *** seriously.

I’m sorry about the accident. Last winter break, when our son was working to make some extra money for the Spring semester, another car slid on some ice and slammed into one moving vehicle and 2 parked cars—one of which was son’s. The damage total for his car alone was around $4700! Thank goodness for car insurance. Accidents happen. I’m sure your parents are just very happy that you’re OK and weren’t hurt in the accident.

I’m a parent, but I just want to point out that your parents are most likely just glad you are OK and there were no serious injuries. You are a nice kid to worry about the financial end of it all and I bet your parents will love you in spite of this.

That’s what happened to me I picked up my brother from who flew in from another state, got into a huge accident where I totaled my car. I drove back the car in half rain while the car was smoking and making huge noises due to the tire grinding against the metal. (I didn’t want to call the tow truck because I didn’t want to wait/my mind wans’t quite right at the time due to the panic). There was also the SAG award in front of my parking lot so they blocked the entire effin street. The police stopped me and I was like “LOOK AT MY CAR. IT’s SMOKING!” and they let me in. LOL. The other guy didn’t even have a license and my brother said something that made me think it was my fault. I admitted that it was my fault although I’m honestly not sure if it was my fault. Sucks.

Good news is I no longer have to pay for my car insurance/parking/registration fees. Don’t worry OP, it passes, it passes. I learned to go around in buses/bicycles pretty much it’s not too terrible. Cheer up!

yeah be happy nobody got hurt. My car did a 360 into the opposite side lane but thank god for the red light other wise we would’ve gotten in multiple accidents. I turned really fast because going slow would’ve totally injure my brother (the car hit my rear doors instead of the front passenger side door. WHEW)

It’s not really part of the college experiences, but it’s not uncommon to get into accidents when you’re young and just started driving. If they’re refusing to let you cover any costs then they must understand, and they probably know too that accidents do happen. It’s not like you would want to wreck your car. Just tell them how grateful you are for them being so understanding. Maybe take them out to eat, and just keep telling them you appreciate what they do for you. Remember this come Christmas time as well. Maybe get them something a little extra special this year :)

It’s understandable to feel angry and upset after a wreck. Take awhile to lie down and relax- don’t get too stressed out.

While we’re on the subject of wrecks, I wrecked into my brother’s car while pulling out of the driveway after I got my first car! His car was just covered in paint- which came off easily. My car still looks like crap where it was hit though :(

i’m sorry to hear that. my car’s timing belt snapped about a month ago (engine=ruined) while i was on the freeway and my life has completely changed. not sure how much you rely on your car, but i LOVED my car and i loved driving. it has been a horrible experience since then w/o it and i’ve not been able to get a replacement or get it repaired. hopefully your insurance has happy news for you!

I’m sorry to hear about that. I know how it feels getting into an accident since I was in an accident also where it was zero fault on me. Car became totaled so it sucked. But you should see how the law is in your state. For New Jersey if you become 17 and over its required you have a valid license and insurance policy no matter what. Thats why my parents had to pay for my insurance even though it rose abit.
