i sent all the css profile to all of my schools that require it last night, and how im looking over the information i sent, and finding that i made a mistake. i accidentally said i have 2000 in the bank instead of 1000. and using the EFC calculator on CB, ill be expected to pay an extra 350~500$ a year. and i really dont wanna do that....what should i do? how can i fix it? do i e-mail all of the finaid offices of the schools i applied to? or just put the right number in the fafsa and hope they notice?

You're not alone, I made a similar mistake! Another poster on this board was kind enough to give me this information, and I was able to solve my problem.

If you just submitted the profile last night, this is the easiest & fastest way to
correct it:

Find the page with the mistake in your Profile Acknowledgement form. Write your name, SSN and CSS ID clearly on the top of the page. Cross out the incorrect figure and write the correct number right beside it.

Fax that one sheet to the CollegeBoard people at 1-305-816-3002. That's it! They make the correction, and send it to all the colleges you listed. You don't need to include a cover sheet, or give any explanation.

Wait 1-2 hrs and log in to CB to check your Profile. Scroll down to the section where the mistake was, and you will see the correction. Re-print the corrected profile for your records.

If you want to confirm this procedure with CB, their phone is 1-800-829-9793

If you don't have access to a fax, you can always take your copy of the Profile Acknowledgement, make the correction, and then mail a copy directly to each one of the colleges you applied to.

Good Luck!

Will they also send corrected version to the schools we sent it to originially? Or do we have to resend it (and pay the fee again)?

Collegebound:

You can use this method only to correct mistakes you discover after submitting the profile, and YES, they will update the original colleges you have on record at the time the mistake is corrected, at no charge. If you decide to ADD more colleges after the correction, you DO have to pay the fee.

Also, you CAN'T use the fax method if for example you used estimated figures for 2004 when filling out the Profile, and now you've filed your returns and want to update to the actual figures. In this case, you must make handwritten update on your Acknowledgement form and forward it directly to each college.

The CB does have restrictions as to what information can be corrected by fax (only certain sections), so its always best to check with them if you have any doubts
(1-800-829-9793).
