I just met Ralph Nader...

Do you think I should write about this experience in my college essay? I've been a big fan of Nader since eigth grade, and I definitely think I could write an interesting essay about it.

The thing is, I was hoping to demonstrate my thirst for knowledge and passion for learning in my essay, and I just don't think that I'd be able to do that effectively in such an essay. So I don't know if I want to write about my political opinions. I'm afraid the essay might turn a bit too academic (about how the two-party system is killing America), so should I avoid doing this?

Generally, you should avoid topics that might be controversial such as politics, religion, abortion, and other things like those.

I second quicksand unless it is something that has significantly shaped your entire high school career…eg, an applicant who spoke around the country about pro-life/pro-choice issues may want to write an essay on that topic

Yeah, I was thinking about that.

What if I just talk about my political journey (basically about how my father and I disagree so much about politics) without getting into the issues?

I’m still not sure if I’m going to go this route with my essay, but I just want to have options.
