I just need a LITTLE push :(

Okay so I have two tests:

October:
C33
E31
M33
R30
S36

December:
C34
E33
M36
R31
S34

I decided I'm going one more time to get that 35 (I see the hater comments coming now. LOL :/ It's not 'cause I want to brag and stuff, but I'm applying to UCs and the UC conversion of that score is a 2250 SAT.. I'd be more comfortable with a higher score. A 35's minimum conversion is a 2340.).

Looking at my scores, English and reading bring me down the most. How do you guys recommend studying for those? Which books?! I used PR.. and the red book, but I think what I need is pure practice. So, do you guys know of any workbooks like they have for the SAT? When I take the English, I feel like I know what I'm doing, but I always seem to miss a significant number :/ Same with reading...

Thanks you guys :)

English will be easier to raise than Reading. It's actually a lot easier than it looks. All 3 times I took the ACT, I got 35s in English, and I'm barely in the top half of my class. I agree that what would help is simply practicing. Get to know what the ACT is looking for in the rhetorical questions, and make sure you know all the technical/syntax questions. Try to avoid answering what you think is the best answer but rather what you think the test's creators think is the right one, and always look for the answer with the most supporting evidence.

That's true. Look for the clues they give you and soon after another, it all becomes a part of a pattern ^^

matus, did you use anything to practice for english specifically?

Yeah, I'm having trouble in the english part as well. Everytime a choice sounds right, I'll pick it and it'll be wrong.

bumppp. anyone?

in english what brought you down more
rhetorical skills
or mechanics and usage?

i got an 18 in usage/mechanics
and a 16 in rhetorical skills

as subscores for my december test

october:
15 for usage
17 for rhetorical

LOL i fail. inconsistencies-______-

Lol Great :(

practice editing papers you have written in the past, finding the errors in s/v agreement, parallel structure, etc. take a practice book and read the "learning" section. they will help you learn what the most common errors are and what to look for

yay thank you :)

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONEE.

You can re-take the test if you want, but if you get rejected from a school at this point, it's not going to be because of your ACT score. If a school rejects you, it wouldn't matter if you got a 34, 35, or 36 composite...there was another element in your application that was the deciding factor.

How can I improve on my English and reading section.... I have a 32 on math and like a 25 on english..............ahhh....that is always my lowest score...how can i improve that....I read all the books...but its not helping....
