I decided I'm going one more time to get that 35 (I see the hater comments coming now. LOL :/ It's not 'cause I want to brag and stuff, but I'm applying to UCs and the UC conversion of that score is a 2250 SAT.. I'd be more comfortable with a higher score. A 35's minimum conversion is a 2340.).

Looking at my scores, English and reading bring me down the most. How do you guys recommend studying for those? Which books?! I used PR.. and the red book, but I think what I need is pure practice. So, do you guys know of any workbooks like they have for the SAT? When I take the English, I feel like I know what I'm doing, but I always seem to miss a significant number :/ Same with reading...

English will be easier to raise than Reading. It's actually a lot easier than it looks. All 3 times I took the ACT, I got 35s in English, and I'm barely in the top half of my class. I agree that what would help is simply practicing. Get to know what the ACT is looking for in the rhetorical questions, and make sure you know all the technical/syntax questions. Try to avoid answering what you think is the best answer but rather what you think the test's creators think is the right one, and always look for the answer with the most supporting evidence.

_<
if you got your tests back then look at what kind really screwed you up
otherwise seeing as how you've done good in each (18 in mechanics and a 17 in rhetorical) you must know what you're doing. I guess the solution is practice practice practice(yes i hate hearing those words as well).

practice editing papers you have written in the past, finding the errors in s/v agreement, parallel structure, etc. take a practice book and read the "learning" section. they will help you learn what the most common errors are and what to look for

You can re-take the test if you want, but if you get rejected from a school at this point, it's not going to be because of your ACT score. If a school rejects you, it wouldn't matter if you got a 34, 35, or 36 composite...there was another element in your application that was the deciding factor.

How can I improve on my English and reading section.... I have a 32 on math and like a 25 on english..............ahhh....that is always my lowest score...how can i improve that....I read all the books...but its not helping....
