now correct me if i'm wrong because you folk know the whole process of transferring. I plan on majoring in english and have become pretty settled with the fact that I am riverside bound. not too stoked about it but i became at peace with it. Well it just so happens (thanks to a friend) that UC davis not only has an English major... but I have finished all the prereqs without even having UC davis in my mind in the first year of my cc work. Now I plan on applying to all the schools that do not require a foreign lang for their English major and UC DAVIS is one more to that list. I had a reach (CAL), and a really really safe safety school (UCR), and now thanks to a lil more research, I have a match!

One more thing, an "A.B." in english is a bachelors right? all the other ucs call their bachelors the original B.A. except UC davis which calls it an A.B. why is that?

To the 85% of the people reading this, this is probably a waste of time, but i dunno i guess im just glad im not settling for ucr.

A.B. is the same thing as a B.A. the only difference is that A.B. is in latin...Artium Baccalaureus

Make sure you apply to UCI and UCSB if you think you got a shot at
UCD. For an extra $120 it is worth it in contrast to what you will spend throughout college. Also, consider UCSC while you are at. It is a great campus. I'll be there this weekend visiting people.

yay good news! I'm also an English major, and the foreign language requirement is killingggg me... 4 literature in translation courses plus spanish ahhh!

obdeb...did you get your transfer agreement signed for UCD? Then your guaranteed admission.

unfortunately did not get my tag for ucd because i didnt realize uc davis offered my major (dumb on my part!!!). hopefully my gpa can get me there? well here tell me what you think, the cum gpa is 3.68. prereqs already complete, extra curric is work.

luvtoolearn, did you end up getting the alumni scholarship?

no, I got a couple of small scholarships from UCD but I ended up going to Berkeley instead and got to the final phase for the alumni scholarship but I was eliminated...I guess I wasn't good enough...lol,lol

I’m glad to hear that you are excited about UC Davis. Unfortunately, I want to inform you that we do have a Foreign Language Requirement for the A.B degrees in the College of Letters and Science, UC Davis General Catalog: L&S Requirements . This is not an admissions requirement, you can be admitted without a language other than English, but is still a graduation requirement. Sorry if this burst any bubbles.

I actually did my foreign language (up to Spanish 3) in High school and completed all with at least a B, would I still have to do my foreign language at Davis?

There are several ways to meet the requirement, even completing a proficiency exam. Please see the information regarding the requirement in the link listed above to review the ways to satisfy the requirement. If you have further questions please contact the College of Letters and Science.
