I Just Realized That Academics Is Not Everything

Um. Obviously.

I wonder if this is going to get added to our Urban Dictionary definition.

Funny about all the sarcastic responders pretending like their lives aren’t all about academics, when deep down they know it is. Good for you though, OP.

In fact, I’ll go out on a limb and say that George Carlin’s contributions to the world mean 100x more to me than, say, Isaac Newton, who I couldn’t care less about.

I experienced the opposite revelation upon joining CC

Congrats! I had the same revelation not too long ago, and I couldn’t be happier :] Life’s too short to spend all of our time worrying. Sure, a good education does mean quite a lot in terms of being able to get a good job, be someplace where you can realize your full potential, etc, but not enough to only get like, 4 hours of sleep a night.

Certain things (like health, happiness, etc) mean a lot more than stressing over school. I’m not saying education doesn’t bring people happiness (I, for one, just really love to learn. Do I love school, though? Eh, not 100% of the time. Honestly, who loves homework?), but there are a lot of other things out there that can bring somebody happiness, too.

So congrats, OP! :]

Quoted for truth. :]

That’s so true if you graduate HS with straight A’s. But, it’s another story if you end up with a B average.

I had no idea you were hilsa, fuzzle…

Yep, hilsa is I. :)

I’m glad someone remembers me. (even though I did have 1000+ posts on my hilsa account)

I remember that you and chronicfuture used to always flirt lol.

Indeed! We had the same sarcasm and love of sexual innuendo. :D

I skyped him a week ago. He’s up at Cornell now. I don’t think he ever wants to go back on here, though.

grades don’t matter so much as what you learn, and what you learn about academics sometimes doesn’t matter as much as what you learn about the rest of the world. (it can make you pretty badass though if you learn your stuff well.)

i pretty much screwed up my life after high school…but thanks to my high school education i still know how to solve differential equations when most people don’t. and no matter what i look like on the outside, i’ll still have the raw competence i need to succeed. unlike the people i tutor who need a calculator to multiply 3 by 5.

so yeah, learning is useful, but grades are just silly. especially if you’re so focused on getting good grades you don’t actually learn anything because you’re too busy brownnosing the teachers and going for extra credit and learning only the stuff on the test.

Cool story bro!

I couldn’t agree more.
