i thought the olympics were supposed to bring everyone together. but wherever i turn, i see racist comments. it's so ridiculous that it's funny and scary at the same time. i don't know if all those ppl are intentionally tryin to be "racist" b/c they think it's funny or if they'r just ... really actually racist. but it's just..disturbing. i get so ****ed and it's not just b/c i'm chinese.

What do you consider racist? Negative comments directed toward races, generalizations stated as absolute fact, or just comments that acknowledge differences between races? Do you have any examples?

negative comments that are not even true.
i don't mean stuff like "oh asian guys are shy" or somethin

maybe "racist" is a bad term but that's all i can come up w/at this moment. lol

like "DON'T LOSE TO THE DAMN CHINESE! THEY GET EVERY MEDAL! THEY'RE TAKING OVER OUR WORLD"
except there's no "racist" comment there actually, it's just derogatory. or it could be, since the stereotype is that china does everything.

.. lol

^well, a lot harsher than that.

YT has a lot of those BS crap that just gets on the best of my nerves

but then, it's YT.

Could you give examples?

stuff like "they don't have a soul, they'r freaks" or "i love how the ppl are suffering from the earthquake. you give pain, you receive pain"...

and the more sensitive issues to me personally..."oh they skin dogs and cats"......that's somethin i can't take. lol. i have a dog.

Laugh at the knowledge that you don't share their ignorance, and civilly enlighten them would be my advice. That or move on. You're right, there are always people who are intentionally or unintentionally mean, racist, sexist, religion-ist, whatever. You can either take it in stride, or try to stop it. Either option is acceptable, in my opinion. One this is important though: Don't take it personally.

I agree with you. We all have these preconceived ideas programmed into our heads from when we were little about other races that make it hard not to be racist, whether you believe you are or don't.

LOL to the skin dogs and cats thing. people still think koreans eat dogs (to anyone who's reading this and actually believes it....... SURE WE DO. IN FACT. IM RAISING ONE RIGHT NOW FOR MY BIRTHDAY DINNER NEXT MONTH. god, get a life)
and that it's some stupid rural country filled with little villages and people in traditional garbs in little huts.
and that the DMZ has reopened (most people don't know what the dmz is though) OR that we're like FIGHTING with north korea, like literally "soldiers come up to the parallel and shoot each other" fighting)

hehe :Djust had to rant. i hate how tv shows portray koreans. they put chinese people in place of koreans (no offense, i know koreans take roles of chinese people sometimes too) it just ticks me off o_O

lol and then there'll come up a random comment about how Americans are corrupt and evil too. love it sometimes, i have to admit. just very interesting.

Albeit true. ^ Lol.

california should become its own country =/
THEN i could hate america and rant about how corrupt and evil it is :D
except for new york. and the new england area.
the new england area should secede as well.
and then i could OFFICALLY hate everything about america.
if texas joined alliances with new york and cali :)

Texas is practically its own country. It ignores the UN and even the federal government.

Jingoistic, not racist.

It's really easy to be racist about a race you don't come into contact with much. Like... I think I hold a lot of stereotypical views about African Americans, but I can't help it because I've met like TWO of them in my whole life. Kay maybe a bit more than that, but you see the point.

At least you admit it. Better than "being in the closet" about it.

lol. There's nothing to be "in the closet" about--it's hard to have non stereotypical views about people if you haven't had the chance to develop them. I mean, by stereotypical I don't mean "hateful" or "negative." Just stereotypical. And therefore racist.

There are idiots who dislike or hold foolish views against African Americans but have little actual contact with African Americans, but have seen all of eight rappers on TV and think "Gee, that must be how x-million people behave!"

There are idiots who will always hold racist views against x-race for y-reason, even if y-reason is the dumbest reason that could possibly be drone up. Some people just need to feel superior.

You can't change these people, so don't bother stressing over it. You know don't "skin dogs and cats", and I assume you believe you have a soul, so someone else's opinion shouldn't be a concern to you.

As I said, it really is jingoism, not racism. We aren't thinking of the Chinese race, but the Chinese nation.
