I just realized

that I don't really want to attend any of the schools I applied to. I wish I applied to different ones. The deadlines are up. What do i do.

Which schools specifically do you want to apply to now? Many colleges have rolling admissions or later deadlines. [This link](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/354075-list-colleges-early-action-early-decision-rolling-admissions.html) contains a list of colleges that have rolling admissions (that means they take your applications at any time without a fixed deadline at January 1 or whatever – although some of them obviously have to set off a cutoff at some point in the future) and here you can find a schools with later deadlines than right now.

Why don’t you want to attend? This may be just a routine case of buyer’s remorse. In which case you will be fine. You’ll get over it. Wait until you get your acceptances and pick the school you like best.

If you really made a serious mistake and actually somehow applied only to schools you don’t like, then you need to ask yourself how such a thing could happen and develop a new list with an eye to either taking a gap year and reapplying next year or picking one of these schools you don’t like and then transferring after a year or two.

Since you just suddenly had this realization now, I suspect it is buyer’s remorse.

duke, unc, uva, northwestern

it probably is buyer’s remorse… i guess I’ll just wait it out, thanks

^^I don’t see any safeties there. Is that your total list?

i already got into safeties

Then you’ll be fine. If you don’t like any of the colleges above that you manage to get into, just go to your safety. Or, if that really sours you, take a gap year. But you really shouldn’t judge schools too much until after oyu can visit them. If you can’t visit them, after getting accepted you may be able to schedule a phone or online interview with someone to talk about the school.

okay thanks, i have one dream school i applied to but highly doubt i’ll be admitted… i really like my safety that i got into with a scholarship but i’m worried because it is not necessarily extremely prestigious and might hurt with job prospects/alumni network/career services/salary/etc. (Northeastern University) I feel like i can get into a more “prestigious school” but didn’t really apply to any that i’ll get into (pretty much only super reaches or safeties… no like slight reaches).

Hey there,

It sounds like a typical case of buyers remorse to me. I mean, i could see your point if you had only applied to liberal arts schools in isolated locations and suddenly liked the big city feel, but c’mon. Duke? UVA? They’re so big, you could find your niche and “group” of people and be happy.

Think for a second, you applied there for a reason. You know you could see yourself with a group of friends hanging out at Northwestern or UNC, etc. Heck, that’s why you applied there!

As far as northeastern…don’t belittle it as much as you are-it’s still a great school! I applied there too and got in with $$ as well. Is it a Harvard, prestige-wise? Probably not. But you and I both know that the name is good enough that, along with solid experience gained in the co-op, you’d look pretty darn attractive to employers. It’s completely natural to desire prestige, and you might not get a ton of it at NU, but 5 years down the line you’ll be done with the whole idea of it.

Oh, and we both have some schools in common that we applied to! I wish you the best of luck with your apps-I recognize you from the Cornell boards, and I’m sorry things didn’t work out the way you had hoped. Just look ahead, and you’re be fine :)

lol thanks the schools i listed are the ones i WANT to apply to, not the ones i did hahaha

Oops, sorry, I’m tired. Well, take that advice and substitute in the schools you applied to haha

You can either countinue to apply to more schools, not attend any of them, or attend one and plan to transfer.

Northeastern like many of the schools recognized by USNEWS will get you just as far as other schools, though if you really think your undergraduate name might hold you back if you plan to attend graduate school if you attend somewhere more prestigious for your specific field then your undergraduate school national view ( which Northeasterns is great) wouldn’t be a factor.

Eventhough undergraduate schools are important and recognized by their alumnis, typically a graduate degree weighs more than a undergraduate.
