Merci, beaucoup. College Admissions- the Greatest Show on Earth.

ttgiang, you are one wild pessimist!

You can appeal decisions...it's something most colleges don't want you to know about, but if you look around college confidential (not the forum) you will find an article written about it.

And gracilisae, don't worry, I didn't have one either.

Ah, that's wonderful news Xanatos! From your previous posts, I would've suspected you to say something like, "Only appeal if you scored a 1600 and got rejected."

if someone has such great stats shouldnt they have gotten a likely letter

Which posts do you mean? But yeah, one of the college counselors at my school explained to me at the end of the year last year that it is possible to appeal a decision, although obviously difficult to succeed in the appeal. She said that appeals are best when you present the committee with information that may have been downplayed or not mentioned on your app but that in retrospect you realize may have made a significant difference their evaluation of you.

Sempitern - what are you talking about? You know it's a crapshoot. People with great stats are going to be rejected, much less get in without a likely letter.

my only point was that a lot of people with great stats got likelies, it is all a crapshoot

I'm glad I ever came on CC. I've never heard of the word "crapshoot" used so many times. There is sooo much left to learn.... sigh

did you get in?

Nope, and they just sent a letter explaining the "why" they cannot review my appeal. I guess I'll be attending Middlebury and rooting against Dartmouth at home games. =/ Congrats to all, and to all a good night.

What was their reasoning behind not reviewing it?

Middlebury is an excellent school, I'm sure you'll do great there.

"You can appeal decisions...it's something most colleges don't want you to know about, but if you look around college confidential (not the forum) you will find an article written about it."

True. One of my friends said his Dartmouth interviewer told him a story about a student sent Dartmouth a letter saying something like, "Dear Dartmouth, I would like to inform you that I have rejected your rejection. I've come to the conclusion that your school is the perfect fit for me, and I hope you will provide housing for me when I show up in September. If not, I'll set up a tent on the Green." I don't really know how the letter went, but the guy showed up in the fall as he had promised and they must have given in, because he graduated in the last few years.

^^what an amazing character!! hahaha

ttgiang15,

i respect you more than anyone on this board right now...

REALLY hope i can help.. wish you the best luck.

thanks princeton and fish, congrats on your acceptances. I wonder where the "respect" comes from, to me it seems unfounded but at this stage, i'll take whatever I can get. =) To fish, it was just basic rejection stuff all over again. I received a pair of emails from the admissions office on the day the package was received. Dartmouth- nice to the very end, don't you just hate that? =/

Many thanks,
TTG
