She told me that 90-95% of EA candidates were either deferred or rejected this year. She told me not to be discouraged though, as I may still have a chance in the regular decision pool. What do you think?

by "counselor" do you mean one of binghamton's admission counselors? a guidance counselor? a private counselor? it makes an enormous difference in terms of credibility.

in any event -- no you shouldn't be discouraged about your chances in the regular pool -- the application pool has become so large, it makes sense that they just want to get a better view of the overall pool before they fill too many slots.

A 5% EA acceptance rate? That doesn't sound accurate. Unless there was an exceptionally large number of underqualified EA applicants this year.

I'm sorry, but I don't believe that for second.

A friend of mine, who has an 1180/1600 SAT score and 92 GPA was accepted EA... I still haven't heard yet.

They put more emphasis on the academic GPA than anything else. Theyre average is 93, his gpa was just about there...was it this year?

Heh, I don't know... That just sounds really wrong to me, considering they haven't even made all of their decisions. I haven't been rejected or accepted so I don't know how she got her statistics. They clearly have not processed every applicant yet.

Also... "Theyre" should be "their"... I just get really OCD about those kind of english errors. Sorry!

not sure if it's correct, I cannot imagine a 5 percent acceptance rate for EA, otherwise, what's the advantage of applying early if you feel qualified? to leave a 95 percent chances for RD?

are you sure you are on the right board?...this aint columbia buddy...

Don't ask me, that's what the counselor said. I don't agree with her either. She over-exagerrated the averages too. She told me the average ACT is a 28, even though everywhere else I've checked says 27. She told me it was her first year reviewing applications...

what else did she tell you. I'd like to know if she's a student working in admissions, rather than a counselor. I feel she isn't qualified, she makes zero sense. Maybe you may want to ask for an admission representative with more years behind them, to compare what's going on this year.

The SUNY website says 26-30 for ACT for middle 25-75 percent at bing (this is on a chart showing all SUNYs). That doesn't say what the average is, of course.

commonapp and collegeboard says the average for binghamton is a 27. I spoke to a counselor. She is the one who reviewed my application. There's nothing I can do about it, as qualified or unqualified as she may be :-(

my school has not had one early acceptance yet, last year we had 20 earlies
