I just want all of you prospies to know...

That after my first semester, I have been home from Oberlin for 2 days and I already miss it so much. Don't get me wrong, Oberlin is A LOT of work and can be stressful. I think that the administration has its share of flaws (like any other institution), but jeez I miss it. I really don't think I would feel this way at most if not any other schools.

That is all. I'd love to answer any questions.

What classes have you taken thus far, and which clubs do you have good insight on? Thanks for your willingness to help!

I’m also a first year and I absolutely love Oberlin as well, and miss it so much already.

Hi
How is the theatre program? classes and performances? is a pre professional performance based or more academic. I know it is not a BFA…but if you can speak to the classroom work, that would be great.

@divaanne: Oberlin’s theater program is definitely not a pre-professional program–it’s all about studying theater within the context of a broad-based liberal arts education. If you want pre-professional, you shouldn’t choose a liberal arts college. That said, plenty of Oberlin theater students have gone on to significant careers in theater and film: Julie Taymor, Bill Irwin, Ed Helms, Corey Stoll, Daniel London, Jeremy Cohen, and Lena Dunham, among numerous others. I know all these people, and I think all of them would tell you they’re glad they graduated from Oberlin rather than from a place where they would have received an education more specifically targeted toward a profession.

That’s not only totally cool, but those five words should be called out out because they speak volumes about the student experience. I went to an excellent university back in the day but I wonder how many professors knew students who weren’t faculty children (or, perhaps, roomed with faculty children). Nice.
