I Just Want To Know My Reach, Match, and Safety Schools - I Will Chance Back

Alright, I don't want to be chanced. But I do need to see if the schools I have in mind are a reach, match, or safety.

My fear is that I have too many reaches, and not enough match/safety, so if you could just copy the list of colleges and then next to each one write "r, m, or s" for reach, match, and safety, respectivley.

A little background:

I'm asian, from NY, first generation. My parents came to the USA about 19 years ago, I was born 3 years later here in the USA. My older brother went to SUNY Stony Brook, and then Columbia for his MBA.

Just finished 11th grade with GPA unweighted at 89.583. Ranked 220/713 (30.8%). I'm trying to get under 25%, but I don't think that will happen. I take mostly Honors class, for example this year I took Math B H, Chemistry H, and also APUSH. Mid 80's for most of them.

I also run XC in the fall, indoor track in the winter and outdoor track in the spring. Started in 9th grade and have been doing it ever since.

Only bad thing is that I don't really have any other EC, and no volunteer work. However I'm looking to do some VW this summer (would that help or would colleges be like this kid only did it to say he did some?)

I'm probably going to run in college too. Whether it be with a scholorship or walk-on (which I think I can do for some of the more athletic colleges).

My SAT scores are terrible. I was 1560 in May, but I jumped 110 points to 1670 for June.

I wanted to major in business/marketing, also maybe like exersice science/nutrition.

Also a side question. For the colleges listed below, are SAT IIs important? Should I consider taking SAT II in October for these colleges?

Here is the list:

Arizona State:
Babson College:
Bentley University:
Florida State University:
Michigan State University:
Northeastern University:
Ohio State:
Penn State:
Pepperdine University:
Providence College:
Quinnipiac University:
SUNY Cortland:
Syracuse University:
University of Arkansas:
UConn:
University of Florida:
UMass:
URI:
University of Southern Flordia:
University of Tennessee:
University of Texas, Austin:

Thanks.

Ok, here we go :)

First of, I want to say that you sound like a great guy. I’m sure you’re thinking “What does that have to do with anything?”. I believe, if this translates into your essay, this will give your application a boost. So, with that being said, put your heart and soul into the essay. Be sure to give the colleges a piece of you, and what matters to you most.

Arizona State: slight reach
Babson College: slight reach
Bentley University: slight reach
Florida State University: easy match
Michigan State University: match
Northeastern University: reach
Ohio State: slight reach
Penn State: slight reach
Pepperdine University: match
Providence College: slight reach
Quinnipiac University: match
SUNY Cortland: sorry, don’t know much about this one
Syracuse University: match
University of Arkansas: slight reach
UConn: reach
University of Florida: easy match
UMass: reach
URI: sorry, don’t know much about it
University of Southern Flordia: easy match
University of Tennessee: match
University of Texas, Austin: match

Ok, that’s based on what I know of the colleges. The ones I labeled as slight reach means that it will depend on your essay. Reach will depend on your essay and if there’s any chance of raising your scores. Easy match means you’ve got it in the bag :)

Also, for your SAT II question, I don’t think the SAT II’s are going to play a big role in these particular college’s decisions. But, it always helps I suppose.

Reach for Texas, Florida, PSU, UConn, Pepperdine and Northeastern. Better chances at UMass, ASU, URI and Cortland. Unsure on the others. Best of luck!

Arizona State: easy match, should be your safety school. 92% acceptance rate (I have no idea why the first person put this as a reach?!)
Babson College: reach, but possible
Bentley University: reach
Florida State University: match
Michigan State University: easy match
Northeastern University: reach
Ohio State: slight reach
Penn State: reach
Pepperdine University: slight reach
Providence College: slight reach
Quinnipiac University: match
SUNY Cortland: match
Syracuse University: match
University of Arkansas: slight reach
UConn: reach
University of Florida: match
UMass: reach
URI: I don’t know
University of Southern Flordia: Florida Southern College you mean? match. If not, I don’t know that school
University of Tennessee: match
University of Texas, Austin: reach since you are out of state
