I was just thinking about these questions and wanted to hear what everyone else thinks about it.

A)Does our obsession with the CC boards (myself included) signify that because we cling to the boards like addicts to heroin, that we tend to be stronger applicants possibly because we are the ones more obsessed with our grades and where we go to school?

B) The wide range of insanely great accomplishments and strength of grades/testing of the people of this boards never ceases to amaze me. Is this really a showing of how truly strong the overall applicants are this year?

Just speaking from looking at the Duke ED roster, there's like, 30 of us, and about 1500 applicants. I don't necessarily we're a strong profile of this years applicants. There applicants stronger and weaker, but who really knows.

Overall, I think alot of the people on CC are the best of the best:)

Just considering myself (I feel that my ACT is not strong enough), must people seem to have very good grades. Every person that is able to be successful at Duke will always be paranoid about if they are good enough. I agree with loveduke22 in that these people are the best!

collegeconfidential=smart, but smart does not =collegeconfidential
no one from the very top of my high school class came to these boards besides me, and i'm sure the same is true of most other high schools.
the people here are more than likely not your stiffest competition and don't think that the most qualified person here is the the most qualified person in the pool.

that said, you guys definitely have good stats and a very good chance of getting accepted

there are amazing applicants every year.. thats why its always impossible to get into the college you really want to goto while others are just applying cuz its good =

I think that is a major problem. People apply to Duke because they think the name "Duke" will get them far in life. I think there is a thread on the third page of the Duke forum that talks about it. Pretty interesting, but bad for those "True Lovers" of Duke.

With decisions coming out in about 2 weeks now I just want to give you guys a heads up---don't stress out, relax! I know how I felt throughout the fall last year. At any given time I would try to get a rough estimate of my chances to get in to Duke based on the most trivial of information. Don't let the fact that some people on this website 'appear' to have better or worse credentials than you keep you up at night. It's just about meaningless.

Also another thing. Wherever you end up, be it Duke or somewhere else, go in with a good attitude. Duke was far and away my favorite school, and I thought that I would hate going anywhere else and love everything about Duke. I am happy that I am here, but my perspective of Duke a year ago and of it now is completely different. It's not better or worse, it's just drastically different. So don't fall into the trap of thinking that Duke is perfectly fit for you and have premeditated visions about how your life will be in college. Go with the flow and make the best out of wherever you go next year.
