I knew better than to go down to the cafe.

I think we have the most millionaires per capita and our area strongly votes democratic in fact the father of the richest man in the country who doesn't do too shabby on his own is huge advocate for an estate tax.
But to get back on topic perhpas they would allow parents forum to have an off topic thread although there seem to be many students who frequent it so often I am not really sure who is a parent and who just plays one on tv

Alas, Emeraldkity, if you look at the public record of donations, you find the senior Gates donating to Kerry and the younger Gates donating to Bush.

Personally, I'd love to see a Parents' Cafe. I don't find the Cafe that appealing, but maybe it's because I get to talk to teenagers regularly--subbing in HS--and prefer them when they self-censor, as they do when it's not an anonymous forum. Mostly, anyway ;-)

If you want to get VERY nervous, go to the CAFE and read in "WHAT HAPPENEDED? ELECTION ANALYSIS" post 390 from CUPBOARD. I think I am losing my mind. Was that post supposed to be coherent or what?

Hello Parent Forum "regulars". I have read your interest in having a cafe, or off topic forum, meant mostly for parents, similar to how this forum is mostly frequented by parents. I am conferring with the "powers that be" regarding this idea. I'll let you know what is decided.

To paraphrase what I am hearing from many posters is that you would enjoy an "off topic" thread amongst parents but have NOT enjoyed the CC Cafe that currently exists as it is a mix of kids and adults and not the tone that you have come to like on the Parent Forum. While it is true that anyone can post on the Parent Forum, not just adults, this forum does have a nature that is different than some of the other forums, particularly the cafe. It is for the most part, an extremely respectful group of posters and thoughtful and considerate even when opinions differ. Many find that appealing. I think you would like to be able to discuss off topic things among those that share other common interests (college, kids) but the current Cafe is not one you find appealing because it is similar to why some of you only frequent the parent forum, not the kid forums. I think, if anything, the cafe is almost "worse" for you than the typical student forums which some do read/post on.

Therefore, I am discussing this with the higher ups and we shall see.

I am not sure where I will be able to post then. Sometimes I THINK like a teeager. I've been around them too long! HA!

sgiovinc, I think it was a kid posting, and he or she wanted to try out new words! That's all the explanation I could come up with. :)

If that was a kid posting, I hope he doesn't attend my D's college!

I think Microsoft donates to both parties, Gates is a business man and wants to cover all his bases, but he does favor the Republician side.
( Another reason to be glad I only use Microsoft products when I don't have a choice)

I was thinking he was a Democrat going by comment of those who work with him, but if he votes republician then his million dollar contribution to charter schools makes more sense. I also see that ( former Sen).Slade Gorton was rewarded for his support of Microsoft with the Justice dept
Microsoft is also the #1 donor to the Libertarians. Wonder whats that about?

I really don't see what is so difficult about Cupboard's post in "The Hall of Darkness". It just requires different study techniques. For instance , I was able to understand it clearly by hitting my skull repeatedly with a ball -peen hammer while huffing on a can of ether-based starting fluid. Like all things, you just have to get on their level to reach true understanding.

curmudgeon, LOL! (Even read your response in the Hall of Darkness).. :)

I wasn't sure my hammer was a ball-peen one so I just skimmed the #390 post and may have understood it incorrectly. Unfortunately, it seemed to me that the poster seems to have some inside information about cloning so Cupboard might proliferate into Cupboards....

Curmudgeon! I am holding you single-handedly responsible for having me fired from my job! I laughed sooooo hard and out loud...one of those tell-tale belly laughs...that my colleague next door turned me in for not working on my assigned work load! You are the BEST! and I hope my D attends the college your child is going to!!!!!

YOU PEOPLE ARE EVIL! I had never visited this dark netherland until this thread and I just couldn't resist the urge to sarcasticly vent down there! I vow not to return there anytime soon!

Oh,Originaloog , I gotta go look . I gotta go look. New meat for the rabid weasels! I'll give it 30 minutes, they ought to have the scent by then.

It is dangerous down there, boys (and girls). I've written and erased at least 5 posts! Maybe we should discuss something tame - anyone read a good book recently?

Well I went to see the Thin Man and After the The Thin Man at the local revival theatre.
Boy did they drink alot!!! Jimmy Stewart was so awful he was hilarious.

I am anticipating going to see Alfie with Jude Law, my mother suggested watching the Michael Caine version instead, but I told her Im not going for the story ;)

We watched The Quiet Man on cable last night - not only did they drink a lot, but JW kept lighting cigarettes, and getting interrupted! The Emerald Isle is littered with discarded butts, each barely smoked. Took the kiddos to see The Incredibles - that's more our speed.

This thread is hilarious.

I visted the Hall of Darkness last week on the Day of Darkness.....and after a couple of posts decided to get the heck outta there. Age-wise, I'm probably midway between the students and most parents on CC - and often feel like I disagree with everyone! LOL

I think my name should be "mominthemiddle".

Carolyn, your post about dancing on tables made me spill my coffee.

Gee am I late to the party? Whats the cafe?

Agnst,

Don't feel bad because when I clicked back to my menu, I could not even find the cafe. I just found it (click college discussion and the full menu will show up) and am anxious to find out what all of the hoopla is about. However, I keep hearing... Be afraid, be very afraid
