i know everyone does this, but chance me please?

i'm going to be a senior in high school this fall, and i know that my test scores and whatnot aren't amazing, but i'd like to know what you think anyway.

SAT: 1900 (essay 12)
ACT: 28 (essay 10)
GPA: 3.49 unweighted, and my school doesn't calculate weighted but i know it's between 3.9 and 4.1
my school doesn't do class rank
SAT II's: english lit - 620, math I - 650
i've taken 2 AP classes so far, taking 2 more senior year. also i've taken 6 honors classes, taking 1 more senior year.
i want to study psychology in college so i'm taking AP psych this coming year, along with AP stat.
AP exam for APUSH - 3, for english lit - 3

extra curricular:
11 years of piano
11 years of private singing lessons
9 years of language school for bangla and arabic (and i can speak 5 languages, those two, english obviously, and spanish surprisingly fluently)
7 years of soccer (traveling team for town, i know i should have tried out for the school team but i was so lazy :/ )
472 hours of community service at this point. i have a lot more i'm doing this summer, so that'll probably be up to 500 before senior year starts.
founder of the youth chapter of the bangladesh environment network in massachusetts, have hosted many events and charities. it's been about 6 months since i started it, and we've raised about $4,000 so far for environmental relief in bangladesh.
in terms of clubs at school, i'm in the outreach club and for senior year, i've joined the school magazine.

recommendation letters i know are going to be really good, and my essay is really good as well, i've been meeting with my old english teacher throughout the summer to work on it with her. english has always been my strongest class so i'm not very worried about my essay.

please let me know what you honestly think, i want to know what my chances are so that i don't waste my time on a school that may not want me. nyu is my absolute dream school, so i'd really appreciate any input i get. thanks so much

Depends. The Stern school of business would probably be hard for you but if you can apply ED to the College of arts and sciences, you might have a slight chance. Pull the GPA up to at least 3.6 and the SATs to around 2000-2150.

yeah i was going to apply to the college of arts and sciences since i want to study psych.

Applied psychology is in Steinhardt, not CAS.

okay thank you for letting me know
any more chances?

LSP is a high match, while CAS is a reach no matter if you apply ED or RD. GPA, SAT, SAT II’s, and ACT are all on the lower 25%tile, and usually most athletes or hooked kids take those spots.

as far as scores go, i got into CAS with a 28 ACT (and i’m not a URM or anything). although, admittedly, my score would’ve been in the 30s without the darn science section. so i wouldn’t stress too much about scores

if you get your gpa up and write really good essays, i don’t see why you wouldn’t have a chance

impressive essay on your SAT lol.

There are two psychology programs at NYU: You can major in Applied Psychology through Steinhardt or Psychology through CAS. From what I’ve heard, Applied Psychology is the more challenging of the two. No matter what program you choose, the professors will be amazing. I’m a Sociology/Journalism double major in CAS and my soc. professors are all great.

As far as your chances go - if you know you really want to go to NYU, apply ED. It shows the admissions office that you are truly dedicated to getting into their university. I applied ED as well. If you get the good recommendations and have an amazing personal essay, I say you have a pretty good shot. Since you’re going into your senior year, I would try to retake your ACT ( I’m from the MidWest and didn’t need to take the SAT but I did anyway and found the ACT much easier) Plus, it doesn’t hurt to try and raise your unweighted GPA.

We have similar stats and I got into CAS. I got a 30 on the ACT (11 on essay) - but my SATII subject tests were not as good as I wanted. I relied heavily on my community involvement, extra-curriculars, recommendations, and my personal essay. Good luck!
