I know everyone hates these threads but

Can you please chance me? I applied to Barnard RD, and I think it’s my top choice, so I just want to know how much of a chance I stand, please be brutally honest!

Status: International (not asking for aid)

Stats:
SAT I: 2150 (CR:710, M:770, W:670)

SAT II: Math I: 730
Literature: 710
French: 630 (:S)

ACT: 33 Composite (E:34, M:34, R:33, S:31), Writing Subscore: 10

(I’ve only taken the tests once each so those are my highest and only scores, but I sent both my ACT and SAT score in.)

GPA (this is where it gets bad): 4.35 (out of 4.67) in senior year, but cumulatively 3.6… I had moved schools in my junior year and my grades really really suffered as a result. I explained this in additional info, and my counsellor tried to explain this in her rec but the drop still looks bad. Our school doesn’t rank (thankfully).

IB: I take the IB diploma, with an extra subject. I did 2 exams last year and got a 7 and 5 in them (SL Math and Chem), predicted 42/45 points total. I take pretty much the hardest course load possible, have never had more than one free period (this is unusual in my school).

ECs:
MUN
Violin (Orchestra)
Varsity Tennis
Varsity X-Country
(all 4 years, all taken to highest level in school (regional representation), got letters for all)

Key Club
(3 years, Vice President)

Student Government
(Public Relations Officer)

Work Experience/Big Volunteer Stuff:
Interned at a top law firm (1 month)
Interned at a daily newspaper (1 month)
Interned at a research lab (in Sarawak) (2 weeks)
Volunteered as teacher’s aide at a deaf school (2 months)

Recs and Essays:
One rec will be outstanding, the other one good. My essays were pretty good, I liked them - I worked really hard on my Barnard ones so they’re pretty well crafted.

Hook:
I’ve moved to 11 schools in different countries pretty much all over the world (my dad’s a diplomat), so I have the ‘hook’ of diversity, I’ve tried to play up on it in my essays. I’m currently at an international school in Indonesia, it’s one of the top international schools and has a very good reputation, but I’m the only person applying to Barnard this year (not sure what difference that will make).

Thanks so much for any chances! Again, please please just be honest.

If you are female, then you are in. If you are a male, then your chances are not so good.

You sound very qualified...so do a lot of other people. Who knows? You have a great shot...good luck!

I think your chances are very good. Just out of curiousity, where else have you applied?

Haha, yes, icy9ff8, I'm female :) My male friend was somehow able to get halfway through the Wellesley supplement before realising it was a women's college (?!) no idea how he managed to do that. So it's a valid concern :P

Thanks for the encouragement froghorn + churchmusicmom. I also applied to Wellesley, Bryn Mawr and Cornell, and some colleges in the UK as my 'safeties'.

Wellesley, BMC and Barnard comprise my three women's schools, too.

Churchmusicmom, may I PM you a "chances" message?

Sure you can. I will give you my opinion for what it's worth!

:)
