a. This should be moved to the chances thread.

b. CC is not a place to brag. Save it for admissions officers. Sorry, but I found your post arrogant, simply because you know you have a chance. Everyone does.

I agree, posts like this do come off as a bit arrogant. You know you have chance, you know you have some outstanding points. Your SSAT is not so great, but seeing as how you are Korean, admissions officers will probably understand your low verbal and reading scores. Did you take the TOEFL?

b. I was not bragging... I was just concerned because I don't have any special ec except maybe math team... also, everyone says that my ssat score should be at least 80 and i'm not qualified for that

ceralina - no need to be snippy. the poster above appears to be Korean and its probably a cultural thing. In many asian cultures, people tend to be self-depricating by American standards and you read it as bragging.

koreanme - since you are Korean, you will face much more competition given the large number of Korean applicants. Your math SSAT score is very good and given that your first language isn't ENglish, I am assuming, your verbal/reading scores won't hurt as much as it might hurt a US applicant. Many of your schools are reaches for anyone but you are applying to a variety of schools. I would think you'd have a good chance at schools like Webb and Taft.

Are you female? Because Zuming Feng at Exeter is the math club coach and the girls jv soccer coach. Have you spoken to him? You might have a good chance there if he is interested in you for the math team.

It would definitely help. I just mentioned the female part because I know he loves his soccer team. But the math team is very high profile both guys and girls, you should call him, he is very nice and willing to talk to people.

For everyone interested in math teams - you should watch the video Hard Problems, very entertaining as well as informative - and features Mr. Feng and two students from the Exeter math team.

a. I wasn't trying to be snippy, but it your post came off as arrogant and my view and I was simply trying to convey how I think most chances posts are pointless. Sorry if my tone offended you.

b. Are your music and athletic pursuits not ECs?

c. Algebra 2/Trig...okay I guess sorta a hook...not wonderful but is a little something extra. Of course there are kids who will be ready for AP Calc freshmen year, but this definitely divides you from the kids that will need to take Algebra 1.

d. You're fine. I'm assuming all/most of your apps are in, so don't stress out until admissions decisions come out. Stay chill.

creative1/ omg taft and webb are the schools I want to go the most... but the problem with webb is that i can't apply for financial aid... and isn't taft almost as competitive as sps, milton, etc?

There was a release from a top school about this, SSAT just shows them where you are. In a way applications are like checks and balances, ie. you are great at math but let's say your math grade is a B or C a great rec or great SSAT score can balance that.

Yes, your low scores in certain areas WILL hurt you, but you still seem to be a decent candidate. A lot of posters here are saying that it is fine for a Korean, and it is but only to a degree. They still want top people, and as you yourself pointed out there ARE Koreans with 99s in CR and Verbal areas.

That being said you seem to be a great candidate, you may have had a particularly nasty test it really depends. Adv. Alg 2/trig won't put you much ahead of many applicants. I am a 9th grader taking that class, but I skipped a grade so I guess that puts me in your boat, and I know that it is normal for Exeter to be advanced.

Make sure your essays represent someone who can thrive in a society where English is the language that is spoken. Unlike many other schools Exeter does not have a well developed ESL program, they have an immersion program I think...

I don't know about others but Taft said somewhere no matter the circumstances they will not review applications with under 50%. Generally that means composite but they usually place a greater value on the actual score.

Good luck with your application and I look forward to seeing you at one of these schools (if I am lucky enough to get in).

NO YOUR CHANCE IS SMALLER THAN MY SMALL TOE CUT IN HALF! YOUR CHANCE IS COMPARABLE TO WHAT YOU WILL LOOK LIKE AFTER YOU MEET CHUCK NORRIS. YOU SHOULDN'T EVEN APPLY, I MEAN COME ON, YOU'VE GOT TO BE THE WORST APPLICANT THEY HAVE EVER SEEN WITH YOUR PATHETIC 99 IN MATH AND YOUR STUPID 6 MATH AWARDS THAT JUST ABOUT ANYONE COULD GET. AND WTH... YOU ONLY HAVE A 4.0 DUDE... THAT'S REALLY GOING TO HURT YOUR APPLICATION...

Alright, I'm sorry for writing in all caps, I'm just incredibly tired of people coming on here, crying "Do I have any chance at all?" When it's incredibly obvious they do have a chance, and they know it. If you want support, thats fine, just ask for it, but don't masquerade a need for support as modesty or hyperactive standards.

You will get in somewhere because of your math...but your EC's aren't amazing. You have a lot but they looked forced....like your parents made you do half of them or something. Just looks like a lot of 1,2,and 3 yr activities and nothing that you seriously have a passion for other than math. But u hav good chances

mpicz / but aren't schools looking for more well-rounded student? I thought being just good at math isn't that great...
and no, I'm not forced to do any of those ec's but yes, I agree that none of them are that great... I guess math club and trumpet are the big ones
