I come from a low-income, single-parent household.
Hooks: URM, first-generation, started philanthropic society to collect toiletries and distribute them to needy (hope to eventually turn it into a non-profit)

And I'm applying to Dartmouth ED :)

Lots of leadership positions, and val if I’m not mistaken? Coupled with URM and applying ED I’d say you have a very good shot. Good luck!

Thanks! And yes, valedictorian.
Anyone else?

Based on APs and SATIIs, you preparation is weak.

i have no idea how they will regard this.

Yes, you wrote to me before

"Your grades and rigor and ECs look good, but as you already know your scores are almost all subpar for D, including most of your AP exams. This indicates that your preparation hasn’t been strong. (I really question how a “National Hispanic Scholar” could get a 580 on the Spanish SAT II!)

What was your SAT breakdown? Did you break 700 in anything?

Certainly, a good ACT would help. You need to convince them that you would not be overwhelmed at D, since that would probably be their only concern about you."

Does the new ACT score (32) help at all? My SAT score when you wrote that was 1980. Also, I will be taking the Lit SAT II in Oct (hoping for above a 700). And from what I’ve heard, Dartmouth takes the top two SAT II scores into account, right?

I think the ACT probably helps. An SAT II that would eradicate the two low ones you currently have would help also.

Should I send in the SAT score and the ACT score? Or should I just send in my ACT score?

According to the “translation” tables, a 32 in an ACT section is the equivalent of a 710-720 on the SAT section. So your SAT equivalent would be something like 2130-2160. I think that breaking the magic 700 barrier does make a difference, although I may be wrong. I have no idea whether they really pay attention to section scores on the ACT or go mostly by the composite. But depending on how the points are distributed, I would say definitely send the ACT and don’t send the SAT–if you can. You will still need to send SAT IIs, and you still could use one more good score there.

It would seem to me that your 32 puts you in much better shape. Good luck!

He’s a URM, so has an excellent shot as val with a 32.

^^That is my thought, also.

She’s*
Sorry, I had to do that.

Thank you, hgates92, Consolation, and hmom5!
