i know im only a freshman in hs but im just wondering...

hey, im a freshman in high school right now but im dead set on being the first in my family to go to a four year university (my top picks are university of texas at austin, my dream college, florida state, university of houston, michigan, florida) i dont know if it matters or not but im african american and mexican and im taking honors classes except advanced geometry, in which i have an A+ in. my gpa's a 3.8 and i have 5 hours community service, played foootball and basketball, and ive been having exemplary reading and writing test scores from what my teachers say, this is the first grade in which ive had a's and b's for the last 2 trimesters and ive been able to write a 8 page summary in civics class without trouble (i dont know if thats good or not), i havent been suspended since 6th grade or gotten detention and I plan on taking algebra 2, and if i can pre-calculus next year as a sophomore. im just wondering am i on the right track and am i doing good so far? im REALLY anxious lol, preciate it.

You are definitely on the right track. Keep up your GPA, continue with the community service and extra curriculars, and study to ensure high SAT/ACT scores when the time comes and you should be golden.

(p.s i plan on either getting accepted into McCombs for maketing and advertisment or being in a journalism major)

Hi, there! Kudos for your focus!!! Very impressive. So, what is your class rank? If you are in the top % of your class, you will be auto-admitted. For Fall 2011, it was top 8%, for other years it has been top 10%. I think for Fall 2012, it is top 9%? Your competition is the students sitting next to you. You want a high ranking by end of your junior year (that’s what counts at UT). Good luck and hook 'em!

lol thanks

lol ok cool eaglemom, and idk im unfortunately in louisville, kentucky i used to live right by austin  ill see if i can get my rank though

If you go to high school outside Texas, then the top 10% (or 9% or whatever it will be) rule does not apply for you. Try to keep your rank in the top 10% (but higher is better!) and try to get ~2000 on the SAT I. Admission to good colleges is getting more and more competitive yearly, so try to set the goal for the SAT even higher if you can. Continue playing your sports and do things you love for ECs.

thanks guys i really appreciate your opinions
