I know I'm probably not in the right place but

could I possibly get opinions on my chances at Penn here?

Lets see…
I just finished my sophomore year at my high school in Jersey.
My GPA… not so hot, only 3.5 (weighted) at the moment because I slacked a bit freshman year. (~3.1 fresh, 4.2 soph.)

I’ve taken a total of six honors classes [so far] and recieved A&B’s in all as final grades [excluding a C- in honors geom. my freshman year].

This summer I’ve enrolled in and am currently taking chemistry at the CCP [community college of philadelphia] so that I may take both AP. Chem and AP. Bio in my junior year and skip what would have been the mandatory 11th grade honors progression to chem. honors.

I’ve been volunteering since I was very young, but as of the summer after 9th grade began doing 8 hrs. a week at HUP.

I’ve also accumulated about 50-60 hrs. with the special olympics.

ECs… I’ve been really involved with operation smile since 9th grade, and am attending a mission summit (for opsmile) on tuesday in Utah. I’ve also been playing field hockey for about 8 mts. of the year since 7th grade. In school ive been on JV for the past two years, but also played as a “floater” for varsity last year. I’m hoping to make varsity this year. I also managed Varsity Wrestling freshman year, and am planning on doing mock trial this year.

I’m set to take AP. Bio, AP. Chem, AP. Macroec and AP. US History this year along with Eng. Honors III, and Latin IV. Honors.

What else? Well, I’ve always been pretty interested in writing and recently entered an essay contest (wont get results until september).

PSAT soph. 184. (not too, great 88th percential.)

Hoping to go on a mission with op. smile shortly.

(I know this doesn’t count for much, but I figure I’d throw it in) Both my mother and sister went to Penn, my mom works at HUP, and one of my recs is going to be from a Penn grad.

yeah. my record is not so great yet, Im not really looking to see if I’m good enough for Penn yet, (I know I’m not), I’d just like some potential reassurance that it’s not too late to become good enough for Penn.

Also, I’d like to apologize for spamming the wrong board with this, I’m new to college conf. and am thoroghly confused with its workings.

you are not even a junior and you are worried about your chances? I think this is silly for a few reasons:
a) your junior grades are the most important
b) you haven't taken the SAT - your psat scores aren't really meaningful since you were a sophomore
c) junior ecs are probably most important too

I really don't know what you are chances are, but if you want my advice don't come back to this board. you will get addicted to people telling you your chances and you will get neurotic over small aspects of what you have done in high school. I think if you do a good job your junior year you have a chance, but focus on having fun and not this board.

harsh.

my two cents: you are about 6 months early but i'll just say that if certain parts of your repetoire are weaker than others (math), invest more time in your academ and excurric strong points

You can definitely get into Penn State

gan ni ma ***

Fine maybe she can't

people from penn state go to the FBI

FBI, what a bunch of a state-school dumbasses. I could never work with anyone from state school. Andrea?

meng who is andrea

some prude who ****es me off.

opsmileohyeahh,

its really impressive you are planning ahead. don't worry too much abt what others say, keep going and you will get what you want.

Jcoveney...

are you a wharton student?

Out of all the forums you can troll on, it amazes me that people choose CC.

excel: kind of. I'm M&T, soon to be ex-M&T.

jose: find a real forum with real trolling and find out what that word even means. I believe something awful often will have its members troll forums. I'd go check those articles out. What we're doing is just forum stress relief.

And Meng: the FBI is full of state school grads who will at least get a chance to work for the government.

I know I asked this question before but...for the ACT is it highest composite or subsections that they look at?

I have been getting both answers by the admissions office.

Would "spamming" have been a better choice? I'm guessing, but I don't think the CC administration would want this forum likened with Somethingawful.

ho ho ho, and this whole time, I thought you guys were talking about me

Oh, I was. :)

you've got me totally wrong.

i'm the messiah

Thanks to those who've offered advice and such. And hey, if Penn doesn't want me, I've heard that joining the FBI has its benefits. Theres always the KKF if all else falls through.
